At the end of this episode Booth recalls an episode from his past as a sniper in the military to Brennan. He talks with sadness and regret about a special incident when he was a sniper sent to kill general Raddik, who was responsible for the murder of 232 people. Booth says he shot Raddik in front of his son, on the son's birthday. The son is named Mark Kovac who later appears in Season 12 as The main antagonist. Kovac is considered to be the final serial killer of the entire series.

After numerous complaints, the opening credits were changed so that the actors' pictures matched up with when their names appeared on the screen.

This is a reference to the incident earlier in 2006 in which Vice President Dick Cheney, while on a quail hunt, accidentally shot one of his hunting companions non-fatally.
