TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION BULLETIN
Issued at 10:46 pm EST on Thursday 27 February 2025
At 10 pm AEST Thursday, Severe Tropical Cyclone Alfred (Category 4) with
central pressure 954 hPa was located over the Coral Sea near latitude 18.1
south longitude 155.6 east, which is about 750 km east northeast of Mackay and
790 km northeast of Rockhampton.
Alfred is forecast to continue moving to the south through the Coral Sea on
Friday and begin to weaken. On Saturday it may take a slight turn to the south
southwest towards the Queensland coast but this should be short-lived as it is
forecast to track to the southeast away from the coast on Sunday.
There is increasing confidence that Alfred will stay offshore of the coast.
However, Alfred is likely to be slow moving next week with some ongoing
uncertainty as to how close to the southern Queensland it may come.
Regardless of Alfred's path, increased coastal hazards for the southern coast
are expected. A large and powerful to potentially damaging easterly swell as
well as abnormally high tides are forecast to develop about southern Queensland
beaches from Friday and especially during Saturday. Refer to marine warnings
and forecasts.
The next Information Bulletin will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Friday 28 February.
