Primitive!’ the towering figure rasped, its voice a harsh whisper. ‘You will ssssurrender to usss.’ It took a lumbering step forwards, reaching out towards Crantle.
‘原始文明！’这个耸立的身形刺耳的说道，他的声音粗糙而低沉。‘你将会向我们投降’它踏着笨重的步伐，走向Crantle。
He reacted without thinking – slamming the heavy wooden staff into the creature’s chest. The creature swayed slightly under the impact. Crantle drew back the staff to strike again. But the creature moved faster than he had anticipated. A clamp-like hand grabbed the staff between the stubby fingers of its gauntlet, ripping it from Crantle’s grasp. Then the creature hurled it away, the massive hand now reaching for Crantle instead.

He took a step backwards, turned to run. But too late. The creature’s armoured hand closed on the back of Crantle’s neck. He felt himself lifted into the air. The world was a sudden blur of confused motion – trees, ice, the creature’s impassive face, snowy ground racing towards him. Then darkness.

The Ice Warrior watched the humanoid’s inert body for a moment, checking for any signs of continuing life. But there were none. It gave a hiss of satisfaction. Above, the sky was split apart by the blazing path of another ice meteor. A third followed close behind. They impacted one after the other further along the ridge, just inside the treeline.
这个冰雪武士打量了一会面前人形的死尸，检查着一些生命存活的标致，但这里一个也没有。它发出了嘶嘶的满意声。苍穹之上，另一颗冰流星滑破天际，第三颗紧随其后。他们一个接一个的沿着山脊撞击，落在树线之中。
The Warrior stepped over Crantle’s body and made its way towards the nearest of the meteors.

Chapter 2
Bythe time the Ice Warrior reached the nearer of the two meteors that had crasheddown nearby, the Warrior inside was already smashing its way out. It stood in ashattered mass of ice, staring out at the night-clad landscape around it – the snowy ridge thatstood between them and the small town of Christmas, the undulating terrain, thedarkening woods.
现在，这个寒冰武士已经走到离他最近的两个流星落下的位置，而里面的武士也已准备破冰而出。大量冰块保持着破碎的姿势向着夜空中飞去，覆盖上周围的土地，雪山耸立在他们与圣诞小镇之间，那起伏的山脉，那黑暗的森林。
Thetwo Warriors saluted each other with a hiss of satisfaction. So far there wasno indication that the Church of the Papal Mainframe had detected their arrival.Inert within the ice, all communications and technology stripped out of theirarmour, the hope was that there was nothing to detect – no emissions, noprocessor leakage, no power source.

‘Whereis Lord Ssardak?’ the second Warrior said. ‘Did you see him arrive?’

Thefirst Warrior gestured towards the woods. ‘His ice capsule came down nearby.’
第一个武士指向森林“他的冰舱就掉在附近”。
Theyset off at once, lumbering through the snow towards the darkness of the wood.
他们立刻出发，砍伐着树木穿过大雪，向着森林的深处进发。
Behindthem, a curious figure peered out from behind a scraggy bush. He brushed hisicy hair out of his eyes, and hurried after the Warriors, careful to keep wellback and out of sight. When the Warriors disappeared into the trees, he waitedfor a while, anxious not to make any sound that would
giveaway his presence, then followed.

Immediately,it was dark. The skeletal branches and gnarled trunks of the trees screened outthe pale light of the moons. Ahead of him, he could hear the massive creaturesforcing their way through the undergrowth and vegetation.
眼前的景物立刻暗了下来。透过树的分枝与扭曲的树干漏下点点暗淡的月光。他可以听到，在他前面，那巨大的生物正强行的从灌木丛和植物中通过。
Thethird meteor had ripped a hole through the canopy of the wood. The huge ball ofice seemed to glow in the moonlight shining down through the gap between thebroken trees. A thick mist clung to the ground as the ice slowly steamed andthawed. The two Warriors marched up to the ice, mist swirling round their feet.In unison they raised their huge fists, and together smashed them into the ice.
第三颗流星从森林的上空撕开了一个口子。那巨大的冰球通过缺口，在月光的映衬下，在破坏的树木之间闪耀着。伴随着冰球冒着蒸汽缓慢的解冻，周围的空间开始升腾起一层浓雾。两位武士整齐的站在冰球之前，薄雾环绕于他们的脚间。他们同时伸出巨大的拳头锤向冰球。
Watchingfrom nearby cover, the man who had followed them into the wood saw the Warriorstearing away the ice. Finally, they stepped back, and a third figure emergedfrom the shattered remains of the meteor. Slightly shorter than the Warriors,sleeker in close-fitting armour that was somehow elegant rather than brutal. Adark cloak hung beneath and behind his elongated helmet, and when he spoke hisvoice was less laboured than the Warriors’ rasping tones.
跟随他们深入森林中的男人，在附近目睹了这两个武士撕开了冰球。最后，他们后退了几步，第三个身影从流星破碎的残骸中出现。他比武士的身形更加瘦小，身着一套保养的很好的合体贴身甲胄，让人莫名的感到优雅的气质而不是充满野蛮与凶残。一条黑色的披风系在他的头盔之下，飘于身后，当他说话之时，他的声音明显比武士吃力的腔调更加的流利。

‘Essbur,Zontan – you have done well.’TheWarriors saluted their lord, fist to breastplate.

‘Thecomponents will arrive soon,’ Essbur – the first Warrior to arrive – hissed.

LordSsardak nodded. ‘Thesetrees obscure the view. Show me the quickest way out of these woods.’

TheWarriors turned and headed laboriously back the way they had come. The manwatching them pressed himself back into the undergrowth and held his breath.Only when the Warriors had passed did he let out a relieved stream of steamingair. It choked off as a heavy fist clamped down on his shoulder.
武士们率先费力的转身走向他们来的道路。那个男人看着他们一点点的靠近，随即屏住呼吸，将身子压低藏入灌木丛中。当他们都已经从他的身边走过，这个男人才如释重负的吐出了一口热气。但这一切却戛然而止，就像一个重拳突然压在了他的肩膀上一样。
Hewasn’ta short man, but his head was barely up to the shoulder of the Warrior thatheaved him out of his hiding place. The creature’s free arm was raised, ready to hammerdown. The man braced himself for the impact. ‘Wait,’ Ssardakordered. He strode up to the man and looked down at him. ‘He may be useful.’ Then he turned andcontinued to follow the other Warrior on his way. The Warrior dragged the man roughlyafter them.
他并不是一个身高矮小的男人，但他的个头却也仅仅只到武士肩膀的位置，然后武士伸出手将他从躲藏的地方揪了出来。这个生物举起了空闲的手，准备捶击他。这个男人在冲撞中勉强的维持着他的身形。”等一下”Ssardak命令道。他大步走向男人，俯视着他说道“他可能会有用”然后他转身，跟上了另一个武士的步伐。这个武士紧随其后，而那个男人则被粗鲁的拖行在他们的身后。
