i think that the fact that someone was impaled in the beta video of dangan ronpa is really sad. because that means junko kills mukuro in any adaptation and it’s even sadder when you read dangan if and you become aware junko is the only person mukuro trusts in the world

Desire
A short drabble over Mukuro’s perception of Junko desiring the despair of others and herself, as well as the bounds of her twins manipulation over Mukuro herself.
WARNINGS- Implied incest, emotional abuse and manipulation, and vague mention of suicide.
Despair is an odd concept to desire.
It’s one thing to crave the downfall of someone else-to watch all of their dreams and hopes come crashing down, the light draining from their eyes as if they’ve stepped in the darkest shadows away from the light, the hopelessness seeping into every pore of their face, the lost desperation coming off like a poisonous aura, striking uneasiness into any soul nearby that has managed to stay together in the midst of their own despair.
And the hundreds of forms that it came in, from the smallest of dropping a glass of liquid and staining carpet, to watching your best friend, lover, family, die without warning, the recognition of their decease coming over stunning moments…
The way Junko talked about it, going into such amount of detail for Mukuro to bother to listen to it all, her hands shoved down her skirt with no shame in the private home, babbling off with a passion that left Mukuro unknowing what to say. A master of deceiving, Junko could bring despair to people without them even being aware- she could recall every detail of every situation that she had ripped the soul from someone, manipulated someone into doing completely irrational actions that were completely out of their character, the models that disappeared out of the medias eyes after an encounter with the blond star left them with confidence so small that they lost the desire to live, much less make a public appearance.
It was never pinned onto Junko, for being her fault. In fact, the masses that Junko brought to despair desired to still hear the fashion girl talk to them, insult them, command them-they’d never see that what she had to say was what was killing them, that the words from her vemon lips were nothing good. They lusted over Junko. They lusted over the despair that she brought-they would never realize it, unless she told them to. And if she did tell them to do so, there was no doubt that they would obey her like a puppy.
What Mukuro struggled to understand was the desire of self-despair.
Where Junko could spend hours squirming over the thoughts of others despairing, she truly got off at the thought of herself despairing. How what would happen if her deadly deeds were caught, her career crashing, her admirers learning to hate her, losing everything she ever had or ever wanted-to watch her country, the one that screamed her name in magazines, television, radio, internet, newspapers, all the top means of media worshiping her for being a sweetheart, a beauty, a divine symbol of pride…All turning around to hate, disgust, betrayal!
In such moments that Junko lost herself in this obsession, even Mukuro’s skills of combat and escape weren’t enough to get away from her twin as she became an animal, using Mukuro as a toy to dim her frustrations.
It would be at times like that where Mukuro feared she had fallen into the trap of desiring self-despair; the long nails clawing over her skin, the pulling, hitting, biting, fucking was all pain she was unused to, never having been hurt in the field, was something that Mukuro had never wanted. She should be ashamed to let herself be marked, her skin that only knew hardship from infliction on the field in the form of sleeping on hard rock, in trenches, burning from sprinting and fighting to stay one step ahead…
But Mukuro found disgust in herself when she did not resent away from the harsh touch of Junko. She could never imagine wanting to bring herself despair-though she had no faltering confidence in her abilities as a solider, the thought of wanting to fail, to mess up her orders…Was scary.
Mukuro trusted her commanders and the orders they demanded she carried out. She trusted her ability to complete them without problem, on time, perfectly.
As Junko still carried on about despair, sprawled out, eyes closed, the springs of the bed making noise with each pull back of her hand as she tried to keep up with her excitement, Mukuro understood that Junko intended to bring her into the world of despair, as her own personal solider.
Should Junko ask her to lust for her despair directly…
Mukuro realized she could not say no.

im kinda sad that they skipped the free-time events
like i know why but like man
that made mukuros death hurt so much less because you never got to see her interact with naegi; you never know that she was homeless and had to protect herself, you never know that she probably wanted to take naegi out on a date after they escaped
you never know that maizono asked naegi to be her bodyguard; you never know that she told naegi to take that gold-painted sword to protect himself, you never know that she looked up to idols her whole life because she never had anything else and that thats why she was so desperate to escape, you never know that maizono had to do ‘bad things' to keep her job and that the idol business put her under so much pressure to be perfect, you never get to see their relationship develop and feel the love that naegi has for her
you never know that leon wasnt such a bad guy; he wanted to be in a band, he hated baseball, sure he just wanted to pick up chicks by being in a band but he was not a bad person
he, like maizono, cracked under pressure — leon kuwata was being murdered and it was only after maizono locked herself in the bathroom that he realised he had a chance to escape by killing her
without exploring free-time events in the anime, you dont get to know many of the students
the anime doesnt have the same feel as the game — i find im only attached to the characters because i know them so much better from the game; looking at them fresh in the anime i dont care about anyone, not even naegi
looking at mukuro protesting monokuma from the perspective of the fact that mukuro doesnt have a despair fetish like junko and shes just trying to impress her sister is sad though
she obviously wasnt expecting the whole “you have to try to find the murderer and if youre wrong ill kill you all” card
she was ok with wiping her friends memories and locking them in a school together and telling them to kill each other to escape, but the announcement of school trials made everything too risky and too serious for mukuros liking
mukuro loves her friends; she never really wanted (or expected, probably) to see them die, she was only trying to impress junko, and the reality probably only set in once monokuma announced the school trials
she asks “are you happy now?” because she hopes that maizonos death and the effect its had on the other students is enough for junko, and shes really surprised when monokuma calls out gungnir; she didnt expect junko to retaliate against her, theyre in this together, why did she do that, “isnt that strange…? why am i…?”

Does it not strike anyone else as a little…Freudian, the way Junko took a knife anddrove it into her sister’s body deeply enough to penetrate her spine?

AU where Mukuro does the sensible thing and gets her sister professional psychiatric help.
After Junko physically assaults and viciously bites her first counselor, doctors want to institutionalize her, but Mukuro doesn’t allow it. Instead, she takes over caring for Junko full time, regulating her heavy medication and accompanying her to therapy and what not.
They have to get rid of the second counselor because she has experience with twins and Mukuro feels like she knows about their relationship. She sees it in the therapist’s eyes: You’ve fucked her haven’t you. Not a long time ago. Not once or twice, when you were emotionally vulnerable. For years. Up until an hour before this session.
Sometimes, Mukuro feels awful about chemically lobotomizing Junko with mood stabilizers, and wonders if she’s doing the right thing. Those times, she just holds her sister and whispers “I’m sorry” over and over while Junko drools onto her shirt.

Despaircest dream:
Junko and Mukuro, on the path of 绝望化, take on someone they shouldn’t. Their opponent is an older, sadistic lady with a lot of fighting experience, which they kind of didn’t count on when they went to take her out. Junko’s supervising from the top of a building, letting Mukuro do all the dirty work. The survivors of the first game are also present, I suppose because they called the mysterious lady to their aid.

Anyway, the lady takes scissors from Fukawa, and during a quick exchange of blows, uses them to pin Mukuro to the ground. In other words, she stabs a pair of scissors through her right forearm and through her right hand, piercing the Fenrir tattoo. The lady proceeds to lean down and whisper “一石二鸟” (“two birds with one stone”) into Mukuro’s ear, and then casually walks toward where Junko is standing.
Panicking, Mukuro struggles to free herself, but realizes the scissors are driven too deeply into the ground. Changing tack, she undoes her ribbon from her school uniform and ties it around her right arm using her free hand and her teeth. The lady looks back and says something like “When your adrenaline runs out, that’s going to hurt” and laughs at her. Trying to ignore it, Mukuro readies her knife and stuffs a torn-off piece of her shirt in her mouth. She closes her eyes, taking a few breaths to steady herself and slow her heart rate, and then cuts off most of her right arm, screaming into her gag.
(Meanwhile, Junko is just transfixed by the 绝望的な turn her plan has taken. Though she realizes she should probably run, she just can’t take her eyes off her sister getting steadily more desperate, thinking to herself that yes, this woman can give her a really great death.)
Clutching her bleeding stump in her left hand (because ribbons don’t really make ideal tourniquets), Mukuro gets on her feet and starts to chase after the woman. Her opponent has almost already reached Junko, but Mukuro’s determined not to let anyone hurt her sister. She’s more than a little hindered by wooziness and pain in her pursuit, though. When she has to climb the ladder up to the roof of the building, it’s excruciating, but she just keeps telling herself that there isn’t room for failure.
Up on the roof, the lady breaks both of Junko’s arms, and forces her to her knees, facing out. She stands behind Junko, grabbing her by the hair, and tilting her head back. Mukuro makes it to the roof just in time to see the woman slit Junko’s throat.
Horrified, Mukuro crawls over to her sister, who is deliriously happy. She tells Mukuro that she has the most wonderfully despairing expression right now, and then dies of an embolism. (Her jugular was severed, not her carotid artery; I do a lot of research on ways to die for stories.)
Crushed, Mukuro just shuts down, letting out this monotone whine of disbelief/grief and dropping herself onto Junko’s body. She clutches at her clothes with her remaining hand.
The lady lets this continue for a few moments before coming up behind Mukuro and all but beheading her. (Think the way a 介错 is supposed to—i.e., severing most of the neck save for a very thin bit of skin and tendon.)
The survivors of Despair School look on, stunned. They then exchange glances, wondering if they did the right thing asking this woman for help.

Headcanon: Hidden high up on her inner thigh, Mukuro has scars. They spell out 盾子 (Junko). I haven’t decided if she carves them herself, or if Junko does it. Maybe Junko orders her to do it and watches as it goes on. Either way, it’s the result of a very painful repeated process using some sort of sharp object.

Mukuro can’t refuse a direct order from Junko. She also can’t bring herself to ever harm her sister.
So what happens if Junko tells her to kill her?
