Mobberley Old Hall
Location: Hall Lane, Mobberley, Cheshire East WA16 7AE
The Hall stands within extensive grounds in Hall Lane and was formerly one of the homes of the Leycesters of Toft. The house had its beginnings in 1612 as a farm labourer’s cottage, then as a farm, which was subsequently extended to form the present mullioned windowed Jacobean dwelling. The house was completed by 1676.
The date 1686, inset in stone on the magnificent old barn, indicates that the distinctive and numerous outbuildings were completed by this later date.
Surrounded by a moat to the rear and a fine yew hedge along the roadside, the Hall is a Grade II Star listed building, and successive occupants have taken care to preserve its original features.

Castern Hall lies on the borders of Derbyshire, and on the east side of the Manifold River, about a mile and a half north-west of the village of Ilam. The Hall is now a farmhouse.
Castern Hall, once the home of the Hurt Family and prior to that, a Grange belonging to Burton Abbey. The Georgian house is a fine building with a commanding view down the valley.
It is home to the Manifold Valley Agricultural Show, traditionally held in August.

Croxteth Hall stands in a 500 acre country park in the suburbs of Liverpool. The large quadrangular house is the ancestral home of the Molyneux family.
From the 16th century the Catholic Molyneux family were rivals to the Stanley Earls of Derby for the control of Liverpool.
They lived originally in Sefton but in 1575 Sir Richard Molyneux built a new house at Croxteth. Remnants of this building can be seen embedded in the south wing.
In 1702 Richard, 4th Viscount Molyneux, added the west wing - the most impressive part of Croxteth Hall. The 4th Viscount converted to Anglicanism and in 1771 the 8th Viscount became 1st Earl of Sefton.
During the 19th century the family received huge profits from the expansion of Liverpool over the family's estates.
This new wealth enabled the family to build large extensions to Croxteth Hall.
In 1874 - 77 the 4th Earl engaged T.H.Wyatt to add south and east wings, incorporating the 16th century building.
The vast north range was added in 1902-04 by the 5th Earl, to designs by John MacVicar Anderson. This range closed the courtyard and Croxteth Hall became a fully-equipped Edwardian mansion.
In 1952 a fire started in the west wing and gutted many of the important interiors at Croxteth Hall. When the 7th and last Earl of Sefton died in 1972 the estate was broken up.
Croxteth Hall and half the park were given to Liverpool City Council.
However, most of the contents of the house were sold and today the rooms on display are furnished with pieces from the city's museum and the Walker Art Gallery.

Lotherton Hall is a country house near Aberford, Leeds, West Yorkshire. It lies a short distance from the A1 motorway, 200 miles equidistant between London and Edinburgh.
The building was home to a number of families through history including the Nevilles (notably Archbishop George Neville, younger brother of Warwick the Kingmaker), the de Hothams, and finally the Gascoignes in 1825. Richard Gascoigne took up ownership of the house following the death of his aunt Elizabeth, wife of Lord Ashtown, in 1883. It became the main residence of the Gascoigne family after the death of Richard's father Frederick at Parlington Hall in 1905. It is sited on part of the Gascoigne estate, and was presented for public access to the City of Leeds in 1968 by Sir Alvery Gascoigne and his wife, last of the Gascoigne family, whose roots were at Parlington Hall.
The estate is now home to an extensive collection of rare and endangered bird species, a herd of red deer, and also, at various times, llamas. There is a large expanse of grassland in front of the bird sanctuary, typically used during the summer months for ball games and picnics. Behind the Hall itself a further field is often used to host shows, such as an annual motorcycle show.
The Hall, which was extensively rebuilt during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, holds an impressive collection of objets d'art which has been built up since the 18th century: these are now on display to the public.

The volunteer run Bluebell Line was the UK's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway, re-opening part of the Lewes to East Grinstead line of the old London Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1960. Since then it has developed into one of the largest tourist attractions in Sussex, yet it still remains true to its objectives of the preservation for posterity of a country branch line, its steam locomotives, coaches and goods stock, signalling systems, stations and operating practices.

The Abbey Gateway is in Chester, Cheshire, England and leads from Northgate Street into Abbey Square.
History
The gateway was built as a gatehouse around 1300 and its upper storey was rebuilt around 1800.It was formerly the main access to the precinct of St Werburgh's Abbey. During the Middle Ages it was the first station for performances of the Chester Mystery Plays.It is thought that the architect was Richard Lenginour.

Tatton Hall is a country house in Tatton Park near Knutsford, Cheshire, England. It is a Grade I listed building which is owned by the National Trust and administered in conjunction with Cheshire East Council.
History
The original manor house in Tatton Park was Tatton Old Hall. Around 1716 a new hall was built in a more elevated position on the site of the present mansion some 0.75 miles (1 km) to the west. This house was a rectangular block of seven bays with three storeys.From 1758 the owner Samuel Egerton began to make improvements to the house, in particular a rococo interior to his drawing room (now the dining room), designed by Thomas Farnolls Pritchard. During the 1770s Samuel Egerton commissioned Samuel Wyatt to design a house in neoclassical style. Both Samuel Egerton and Samuel Wyatt died before the house was finished, and it was completed (1807-16), on a reduced scale, by Wilbraham Egerton and Lewis William Wyatt, Samuel Wyatt's nephew. Samuel Wyatt had planned a house of eleven bays, but Lewis reduced this to seven.Wilbraham bought a number of fine paintings, and many items of furniture made by the family firm of Robert Gillow and his successors.In 1861–62 an upper floor was added to the family wing to a design by G.H. Stokes.In 1884 a family entrance hall was added to the north face and a smoking room to the extreme west of the family wing. Also in 1884 electricity was installed in the hall.
During the later part of the 19th century Wilbraham Egerton, 1st Earl Egerton, hosted large house parties in the hall. Eminent guests included the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1887, and at later dates the Shah of Persia and the Crown Prince of Siam. The last member of the Egerton family to live in the hall was Maurice Egerton. He made a large collection of objects from around the world some which are on display in the hall. On his death in 1958 Maurice Egerton bequeathed the mansion and gardens to the National Trust.

Peover Hall is a country house in the civil parish of Peover Superior, commonly known as Over Peover, Cheshire, England.
History
The house was refaced in 1585 and was built for Sir Ralph Mainwaring.There have been alterations and additions to the house in around 1653–56, around 1764, around 1944 and in 1966. It was originally planned as an E- or H- shaped house but this plan was abandoned around 1590.In 1654 a stable block was built. The alterations in the 1760s included a wing at a right-angle to the house, making it a T-shape, and a new stable block and coach house. In 1919 the Mainwaring family sold the house to John Graham Peel and it was sold again to Harry Brooks in 1940. During the Second World War the house was requisitioned and used by General George Patton and his staff.The hall was also used as a prisoner of war camp, and as a resettlement home for allied prisoners of war and for English people repatriated after the partition of India. It was returned to the Brooks family in 1950. The 1760s wing was in poor condition and was demolished in 1964, when other modifications were made, including a new entrance.

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Bangor-on-Dee near Wrexham, Wales.
It is a left-handed National Hunt racecourse, and doesn't have a Grandstand.
History
Racing first took place at Bangor on Dee Racecourse on February 1859,and has since taken place regularly except during the wars.
Since 2006 Bangor has also hosted 业余运动员 Point-to-Point races run by local hunts. The course for the Point-to-Point is on the inside of the main track and races are run right handed.

History of Leighton Hall
The earliest records of Leighton Hall go back 750 years to 1246, when it is known that Adam D'Avranches had a fortified manor here. Since then there have been 26 owners of the property and only twice has the ownership passed by sale. Even now, the current owner is a descendant of that first recorded resident.
Every owner of Leighton Hall, with one exception, has been a Roman Catholic and during Penal Times a priest was always hidden somewhere in the house. The only owner to conform to the Established Church was Sir George Middleton, the last of the Middletons of Leighton, although his wife remained a staunch Recusant throughout, Sir George was a distinguished Cavalier. A colonel of the Royal Army, he was both knighted and made baronet on the same day at Durham in 1642. He was twice High Sheriff of Lancashire and paid fines amounting to £2646 for his loyalty to the Crown in Cromwellian times.
He was succeeded by his grandson, George Middleton Oldfield, who died at Leighton Hall in 1708. The next owner, the unfortunate Albert Hodgson, who had married Oldfield's daughter Dorothy, was taken at Preston in the 1715 Jacobite Rising. Leighton Hall was sacked and burned by government troops & Hodgson's life interest in the property was confiscated.
However, in 1722 Leighton Hall was sold at public auction and bought back for Hodgson by a friend, a Mr Winkley from Preston. Hodgson was eventually released from prison and retired to his ruined and heavily mortgaged property. The situation was saved in the next generation by his daughter, Mary marrying the wealthy George Towneley of Towneley Hall.
George Towneley rebuilt the house in the Adam style, replanted the woods and laid out the park in 1763. The present beauty of Leighton Hall's grounds is very much a result of George Towneley's investment. Unfortunately there were no children of the marriage and in 1782 Mr and Mrs Towneley left Leighton after establishing their chaplain in a house at Yealand which became the present Catholic presbytery. When in 1786 Mr Towneley died, the property was sold by his nephew, John, to Alexander Worswick of Ellel Grange in 1805. Worswick was a banker in Lancaster and married to Alice Gillow.
His son, Thomas failed in business after the Napoleonic Wars, but this was the start of the two hundred year association of Leighton Hall with the famous Gillow family. Thomas sold the property in 1822 to his cousin Richard Gillow, the grandson of Robert Gillow, the founder of the famous furniture business Gillow & Co. of Lancaster.
Richard was a man with fashionable ideas and so he refaced the house in the new "Gothic" style between 1822 and 1825 and retired from the business to live the life of a country squire at Leighton Hall. His wife was a Stapleton from Carlton Towers in Yorkshire.
Their son, Richard Thomas Gillow, inherited the property in 1849 and died in 1906 at the magnificent age of 99. Known throughout the county as the "Old Squire", he built the Roman Catholic Church at Yealand in 1850 and the new Victorian wing at Leighton Hall in 1870.


When he reached the age of 70, he was convinced that he had not much longer to live and could only be induced to carry out minor repairs, saying that the things would see him out. As he lived another 29 years, his grandson, Charles Richard Gillow, inherited a very dilapidated property.
Charles died in 1923, but his widow lived on at Leighton Hall until her death in 1966 at the age of 96. Their daughter Helen, married Mr, James R. Reynolds who was the son of the late Sir James P. Reynolds, Bt. Of Woolton, near Liverpool.
On her death in 1977 the house passed to their eldest son Mr. Richard Gillow Reynolds, who married Susan Kenyon, and they have two daughters, Katherine and Lucy. Richard and Susan Gillow Reynolds are the current owners of Leighton Hall. Like his father, Richard Gillow Reynolds continues to improve and renovate the Hall and its estate.
The Gardens
Leighton's grounds are well worth exploring. The Leighton Hall estate stretches over some 1,550 acres.
As well as landscaped parkland and woodland walks, Leighton is the home of a very pretty 19th century walled garden. This garden is the realm and the passion of Mrs Suzie Gillow Reynolds. Not a lover of structured formality, Mrs Gillow Reynolds has encouraged a garden which has flowers in abundance, rose covered walls, a fragrant herb patch and overflowing herbaceous border. It has an almost cottage garden style.
The only exception to the free form is the formal, ornamental vegetable plot. Here, cabbages are castles and parsnips are pagodas!
Surrounding this walled retreat and winding through the grounds are miles of footpaths. A stroll through the woodland walks which were planted by an 18th century Leighton owner can be calming and peaceful. Sharp eyed walkers could be lucky enough to see some of the many forms of wild life which live on the estate.
Leighton Hall's grounds and gardens are constantly changing. Each new season and each new year brings new plants, new displays and also new families of animals to Leighton.

A great public park. The competition for its design was won by the Frenchman, Edouard Andre in 1867. He was gardener in chief to the city of Paris. The park's flowing lines, circles and elipses remind one of Alphand. Sefton has a large lake, woods, a magnificent conservatory and everything one would want in a Victorian park in Liverpool.
