We had a very exciting week of game viewing last week, where our guests were lucky enough to come across a pride of eight lions in the Changa Bay where they were feasting on an impala. Meanwhile, a crocodile had come across the scent of the impala and made its way across the bay where unbeknown to him, he would be the next meal! Two of our young male lions have learnt that crocs are not only delicious to eat, but are easy to creep up on! This is learned behaviour and as far as we know is unique to the Matusadona/Bumi area.

Having naturally dispersed from their parent pride in Matusadona national park on lake kariba, these two young males have made it a regular incidence along the Bumi Hills Safari Lodge shoreline, where they frequently kill and eat large crocodile.

While out on patrol this morning our Bumi Hills Anti Poaching Unit (BHAPU) scouts came across this fascinating scene. A dead hippo, which seems to have died of natural causes, and two dead and half eaten crocodiles. The area around the scene is covered in lion spoor so we can only assume that the crocs while feeding on the hippo carcass became a meal themselves!
We have put a camera trap up at the site and will update you on the results!
