Blake Shelton- Opry Reflections - Backstage at the Opry
Blake Shelton just showed off a sentimental side that we don’t see very often – but a side we so very love
Country music superstar Blake Shelton may be best known for his sense of humor and his love for whiskey, but what might just be the most endearing side of him isn’t shown very often…unless he finds himself at the Grand Ole Opry.
The long-standing musical institution certainly brings out the best of him. In a Rare Country exclusive video premiere, Shelton recently sat down for an “Opry Reflections” video to reminisce a bit on his career thus far.
“It’s always special to me to come back to the Opry,” Shelton said. “Every time I get to come back here and sing, it brings back all of these memories. I was only 17 when I moved here and I was cocky enough to think that I could be on the Opry. The odds of moving to this town, not knowing anyone and making it in country music…I mean, I won the lottery, and it keeps getting better.”
Shelton also took the time to rate his favorite Opry moments, including the nights in which he was invited and inducted into the famed institution.
“The greatest night was the night I was inducted five years ago,” Shelton said with a smile. “Having one of my best friends in the world (Trace Adkins) happen to be a member and that person inducts me…it just made it even better.”

Blake Shelton doesn’t like to think about his 20 No. 1 songs — especially the 15 he’s had in a row. It embarrasses him.
He doesn’t have a choice at the moment — his greatest hits package “Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits” will be released Friday.
“I guess it’s only been in the last five years that that (15 No. 1 songs) has happened,” Shelton said. “I can’t believe it. I can’t wrap my head around it. I hate even talking about it sometimes because I don’t want people to go, ‘Oh my gosh, enough is a enough.’ ”
The album includes songs ranging from recent chart-toppers “Sangria” and “Neon Light” to “Hillbilly Bone” with Trace Adkins, plus Shelton’s first hit, “Austin.” “Gonna,” the bonus song in “Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits,” is now being played on country radio.
“I don’t feel like I’m doing anything that much different than I did in the first 10 years (of my career) when we struggled for airplay,” Shelton said. “Every now and then something would break through, but for the most part, it was a fight. For the last five years, the way things clicked and took off, I don’t know why it happened, but I’m glad it did.”
The newly single Shelton has also recently spent time in the recording studio pouring the year’s ups and downs into new songs.
“I think for the first time, maybe ever, I’m really doing this exactly how I’m supposed to do it,” Shelton said of making his upcoming studio album. “I’ve figured out how to channel (this year) into music. I wish I could (fast forward) right now. Even though I’m supposed to be promoting this greatest hits, I really want to skip ahead into the future for this studio album that I’m so connected to and so excited about.”
Catch Shelton on "The Voice" at 7 p.m. Mondays and 8 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC. Shelton will headline Bridgestone Arena March 4-5.
