戴安娜和她的同伴开车途经一个坟场时，看到一个老妇人在她儿子的墓前哭泣，于是戴安娜叫停了车队，下车走向老妇人，然后就发生以下的这一幕。虽然她们不会对方的语言，但有些事情是不用语言来沟通的。

在一个地雷受害者的家中，抱起一个天生残疾的的小孩子。

戴安娜和她的同伴们认为，国际社会有义务帮助地雷受害者，因为这些地雷的使用本身就是违反了国际人道主义条例的：
1、不像一般武器，地雷没有办法区别武装人员，和平民百姓。
2、 由于缺乏自毁装置（制造商的失误），地雷在和平时代还会继续伤害平民百姓。
3、地雷受害者是自己触发地雷的，因此没有直接的责任人给受害者补偿。
4、地雷受害者大多数在贫穷国家，这些国家无法负担他们的医疗费和生活补助。
因此地雷制造商，和所有通过制造和销售地雷而牟利的商家或国家应该为这些不人道，不合法的地雷所造成的伤害负责。特别的戴安娜在暗地中开始收集这些地雷制造商和销售商的资料并制作做成一份报道，把它称为：``Profiting out of Misery" (“从痛苦中牟利”）。这是Simone Simmons在法庭上的证词：
``She did a lot of research on landmines asking questions of people on the ground, checking with those in authority whom she had met as the Princess of Wales, cross-examining anyone she met who knew something about the subject. She compiled a dossier which she claimed would prove that the British Government and many high-ranking public figures were profiting from their proliferation in countries like Angola and Bosnia. The names and companies were well known, it was explosive and top of her list of culprits behind this squalid trade was the Secret Intelligence Service, the SIS, which she believed was behind the sale of so many of the British made landmines that were causing so much misery to so many people. `I’m going to go public with this and name names’, she declared. She intended to call her report ’Profiting Out Of Misery'"

上边那篇文章就提到了，即便马上签署禁雷公约，那些已经埋在地下的数千万的地雷还是会继续伤害无辜的人，是很多人断手断脚，因此失去劳动能力。而装一份假肢需要数千美元，是这些受害者承受不了的。而戴安娜的目标是，推动帮助受害者的条约进入最后的公约里，让那些生产这些地雷的生产商和国家一起负担受害者恢复的费用。但怪就怪在，商定最后公约的大会在9月初召开，戴安娜8月31日出车祸。戴安娜的突然死亡真是帮了那些地雷生产商的大忙啊！
生产地雷的商家不是普通的武器生产商，而是一些知名的商品商家。欧洲最大的两个是意大利的Fiat，和德国的Benz，美国是GE。

今天看Simone Simmons的书才知道，原来戴安娜为帮助那些地雷受害者，不但劳心劳力，还劳钱包。当她在安哥拉看到那些可怜的断手断脚的受害者后，大受感动，马上自掏腰包250000英镑捐给帮助这些受害者的慈善组织。
