DARREN IS HEDWIG Review I saw Hedwig last night with Darren Criss 3 days after seeing the best theatrical experience of my life: John Cameron Mitchell’s last performance. Knowing it would not compare to his last performance, and being skeptical of Darren in the first place, I set my standards pretty low for Darren. I was a little suprised. He did not blow me away, but he did a respectable job, and will only improve over his run. His accent was one of his flaws, he reeeeally needs to work on it. It sounded Chinese at some points. His mic work is something that will come more naturally throughout the run, but it was not there yesterday. His voice was good, but he did get a few flat notes here and there, and went off key in Origin of Love for a brief moment. My biggest problem was his acting of the role. His comic timing was not there. He would stretch out the delivery of his jokes, and they were less funny as a result. His anger towards Yitzhak came off as funny to the audience, but it is supposed to be kind of serious, then played off as a funny moment by Hedwig, I did not get that last night. His serious moments were good, and the final 10 minutes were great (Hedwig’s Lament to the end). Having seen all the Hedwigs to base off my opinions, Darren did a fine job for his opening night, and I am interested in returning later on to see how he grows into the role. He just isn’t there yet. 这个姑娘也长处短处都说了 papabroadway*tumblr*com/post/117765077288/darren-is-hedwig-review
