    Top 10 point guards

    1.Marcus Paige, North Carolina

    Size: 6-1, 175 pounds
    Stats: 17.5 ppg, 4.2 apg
    Class: Junior
The No. 1 point guard on this list might not even play the position this season. Marcus Paige managed to enjoy an excellent sophomore season while bouncing between running the North Carolina offense and being the North Carolina offense. He’ll have so much more help with freshmen Justin Jackson and Theo Pinson arriving to play on the wings, but coach Roy Williams will have to decide whether the team works better with Pinson as the regular shooting guard or the point turned over to freshman Joel Berry and sophomore Nate Britt, with Paige becoming more of a score-first player.(Marcus Paige在北卡的大二赛季异常出色,但是作为这个榜单PG的NO1,他很可能新赛季并不出现在这个位置上)

      3.Juwan Staten, West Virginia

      Size: 6-1, 190 pounds
      Stats: 18.1 ppg, 5.8 apg
      Class: Senior
There was no more improved player in college basketball last season, whether it’s a matter of statistics — he averaged 7.6 points and 3.3 assists the previous year — or his approach to the game. After an uneven sophomore season in which he played a lot and produced only a smidge, he broke out as one of the top players in the Big 12 in his second time around the league.
Part of that was growing to understand how hard coach Bob Huggins wanted him to play. Effort is non-negotiable with Huggins; those who conserve it are bound to be harangued. This past season Staten improved his commitment, his on-ball defense and his efficiency as a player. The only question now is whether his remaining teammates — the transfer of wing Eron Harris hurt badly — have enough talent to allow Staten’s impact to truly matter.(进步最快球员)

        4.Emmanuel Mudiay, SMU

        Size: 6-5, 190 pounds
        Class: Freshman
It is important to be honest here: Despite what this ranking suggests, we are not yet true believers in Mudiay. We’ve seen him struggle to handle the ball at times, to think the game at others. We are, however, convinced he is an extremely promising, gifted player and that he’s chosen a coach, Larry Brown, who is an expert at turning the best talents into the best players.
This is not a position loaded with exceptional talents, however, and Mudiay is big, quick, fast and, to use a word that occasionally bothers some editors, explosive. Things happen when he plays. Most of them good.

          5.Andrew Harrison, Kentucky

          Size: 6-6, 215 pounds
          Stats: 10.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg
          Class: Sophomore
Harrison’s primary problem as a freshman was frequently playing it too cool — his teammates needed to see more passion, more fire, more hunger. Even during the surge to the NCAA championship game these qualities were only evident for periodic stretches.
Harrison has not demonstrated elite qualities as a shooter, passer or defender. But he excels at using his size to overwhelm smaller defenders (most are) and either score over them or force fouls. His 208 free throw attempts represented an impressive number for a player who was only moderately active in terms of trying to score. Given his physical qualities and skill set, what would elevate Harrison to elite status is greater intensity on defense — which would lead to better offensive opportunities — and an improved 3-point shot.

            6.T.J. McConnell, Arizona

            Size: 6-1, 195 pounds
            Stats: 8.4 ppg, 5.3 apg.
            Class: Senior
Though McConnell produced respectable offensive numbers in his first season at Arizona — and showed he was capable of even better as a young player at Duquesne — he tended to shoot only as a last resort last winter. That was sometimes the best course for the Wildcats, but not always. Both he and they would benefit if McConnell again became eager to take advantage of all opportunities that become available. He already has proven his worth as an orchestrator of offense and on-the-ball defender, and as a player willing to lead a team from the point guard position. Does Arizona need McConnell to be a star now that Nick Johnson has taken off for the NBA Draft? Hey, it wouldn’t hurt.(连续两年入榜)

              7.Fred VanVleet, Wichita State

              Size: 5-11, 194 pounds
              Stats: 11.6 ppg, 5.4 apg
              Class: Junior
When you’ve produced a perfect (regular) season, what on Earth do you do for an encore?
VanVleet was a third-team All-American for Sporting News last season, when he led the Shockers to a 34-0 record entering the NCAA Tournament. He deserved every bit of that, but it will be challenging to have that degree of impact with the team losing frontcourt star Cleanthony Early. VanVleet still has a chance to be a star, but he’ll have to do it this time by being a star, not just the most important player on a flawless team.(实至名归,上赛季他率领Shockers以34-0全胜记录进入NCAA Tournament)

                8.Ryan Boatright, Connecticut

                Size: 6-0, 168 pounds
                Stats: 12.1 ppg, 3.4 apg
                Class: Senior
What kind of point guard will Boatright be? It’s not as though he never handled the ball for the Huskies, because he often took over for Shabazz Napier in order to vary the attack and lessen some of Napier’s burden. Boatright also got the opportunity in those rare instances when Napier left the game.
We know that Boatright can be a sensational on-ball defender. His destruction of Michigan State’s guards kept alive UConn’s run to the national title. Boatright can shoot and score; he averaged better than 15 points as a sophomore and has 113 career 3-pointers. It is an entirely different circumstance taking full command of the team, and doing it in what will be a transitional year. But good things seem to happen to Huskies guards.(上赛季Boatright更多是为了Shabazz Napier分担攻击力减轻负担,Boatright拥有骇人听闻的防守能力和3分)

                  9.Keifer Sykes, Green Bay

                  Stats: 20.3 ppg, 4.9 apg
                  Class: Senior
It is not easy for a player at a mid-major program to make an All-American sort of splash. Ask VanVleet, who had to guide his team to a perfect season to get there. Or ask Damian Lillard, who was brilliant two seasons ago — but was brilliant at Weber State, which can get you noticed by the NBA but doesn’t always make you a college hoops headliner.
Sykes has the advantage of playing in a higher-level conference, the Horizon League, and perhaps a field of point guards in which no one is a lock to be a high-major superstar. And Sykes is really, really good. How good? How about 32 points against Wisconsin?(Sykes有多好?对大威26中13怒砍32分够不够?)

                    10.Yogi Ferrell, Indiana

                    Stats: 17.3 ppg, 3.9 apg
                    Class: Junior
A year ago we had Ferrell much higher on this list, figuring he’d surge forward as a talent and take a young team of Hoosiers with him. Well, one out of two ain’t bad, but it ain’t great. Ferrell produced impressive stats and had some extraordinary moments, but he didn’t help IU win a ton of games, even with a likely top-10 pick in the frontcourt.
Ferrell proved he has talent, that he can score from inside and out and often to put the ball in the right place. But here’s the truth: 2.6 turnovers a game when your team wins big is Allen Iverson’s idea of charming. Giving the ball away that often when you’re flirting with .500 is just not good enough. Ferrell has to take command of the Hoosiers, and the game.(同样连续两年入榜,Ferrell已经证明了他的天赋,也打出了一些无与伦比的比赛,但是这还远远不够)

                      Top 10 shooting guards

                      1.Aaron Harrison, Kentucky

                      Size: 6-6, 218 pounds
                      Class: Sophomore
                      Stats: 13.7 ppg, 1.9 apg
The irony of Aaron Harrison’s situation is that even though there is an exact replica of him on the Kentucky roster — his twin brother Andrew — Aaron is the only Wildcat whose contributions to next season’s championship push will not easily be duplicated. The Cats have two of just about everything, but not two proven wing scorers.
One might charge that they don’t have even one, given Aaron’s struggles through much of last season. But his excellence in the NCAA Tournament, under enormous pressure, was evidence he can excel as a primary perimeter scoring option.
He can afford to focus more intently in games, and to work to better influence games in which outstanding defenders limit his access to the ball. Because he’s going to see a few of those. Kentucky will play big games, and Harrison will be a target.(没什么好多说的,去年疯三的大心脏)

                        Stats: 13.1 ppg, 3.1 apg
What is there not to love about Baker? What does he not do well — perhaps even extraordinarily well? You are starting to hear whispers from NBA scouts about his suitability for their league, and the truth is they’d be screaming if he were a couple inches taller.
The truth, as well, is that he’d top this list if one of two things were more certain: that Baker can comfortably advance from a magnificent secondary scoring option to one who is comfortable with the idea that he has to get 18 or 20 every night; or that bumping his average up to 15 or 16 points would result in another 34-0 regular season.
The former is the more likely alternative, but we still have to see that it suits him.(Ron Baker,谁不爱

                          4.Malcolm Brogdon, Virginia

                          Stats: 12.7 ppg, 2.7 apg
Though his scoring average wasn’t breaking any records, Brogdon’s versatility and defensive acumen earned him a position on the All-ACC first team. And though the ACC has 15 teams, it doesn’t concoct one of those phony 15-member all-conference squads. He was one of five. The coaches were impressed.
He scored in double-figures in every ACC game save one, and the Cavaliers won that game over Florida State. Though he is known best as a rugged defender, Brogdon has a beautiful shooting stroke and could comfortably replace the hole Joe Harris leaves in the offense. When UVa needed a tie-breaking basket in a road game at Pitt — a game that might have been the most important in the Cavs’ successful ACC title push — the coaches trusted Brogdon and he drilled a last-second 3-pointer.(.Malcolm Brogdon的防守能力和投射能力确保他将在ACC一阵中)

                            Stats: 9.7 ppg, 2.5 apg
There was a stretch midway through last season when it seemed possible that Selden would remember how truly talented he is and play like the star is he capable of becoming. In consecutive games against Oklahoma and Kansas State, Selden attempted double-figure shots and averaged 22 points. He reached the 20-point mark only once the rest of the year, and by the end he’d completely lost his confidence.
Andrew Wiggins is gone now. Kansas needs Selden to be special. And he’s got the ingredients: athleticism, energy, tenacity, a decent shooting touch. It’s possible Wiggins’ immense talent led Selden to believe he needed to accept a supporting role. That’s not an issue now.(围巾一去不复返,Selden需要站出来成为特殊的那一个)

                              Class: Freshman
If Johnson can make shots for the Wildcats — if he can make them at a rate somewhere between Frazier’s absurdity and Brogdon’s proficiency — he very well could merit the top position on this list. So much of Johnson looks like an ideal player: his body, his bounce, his energy, his swagger.
Is he a shooter, though? Arizona very much could use it. Small forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is many things, but a shooter isn’t one of them.
Johnson did not hit a 3-pointer in the McDonald’s game and was 1-of-6 from the field in the Hoop Summit. He made three from long range in the Jordan Brand Classic, so maybe it’s there. It could be the most important ingredient in the Wildcats’ pursuit of a championship.(新生,没什么好说的,看比赛吧
