The loft is beautiful and huge, the nicest place I had ever been in. The director says “Over here guys.” As I head over to the area the director indicated, I see a woman applying make-up to a man laying down on one of the couches. I nearly freeze when I see it’s Mickey, played by Noel Fisher. We make eye contact and I notice for the first time that he is unbelievably handsome, even in person. Once we reach the director he explained that the scene is the morning after a wild party and he explained where we would be and what we would be doing. It was a breakfast scene for the guys who spent the night after the party. The set and cameras are just amazing. All the effort that goes into the show was shocking.
Ian, played by Cameron Monaghan, walks in after a few minutes and they are immediately ready to roll. The boys were lying on a couch that opened up to a bed as Mickey was awakened by the ‘owner’ of the loft, leaving Ian asleep next to him. After a quick conversation about the boys breakfast order, the owner asks “Did you meet last night or are you together?” Mickey pauses before eventually responding “Together.” I had no idea what an epic and long awaited moment this had been until later. The scene took about two hours because of the different angles and re-setting things up. Only one mistake was made when Cameron broke character and starting laughing in the middle of the scene. Noel jokingly responded by saying, “All you have to do is sleep… Like most scenes.” I must say those two had great chemistry and seemed close. Once the scene was done, Noel and Cam, as well as the background actors, leave the loft so it can be set up for the next scene, the party scene.
I chatted with my friend, who was relieved he didn’t have to do anything sexual with another actor. I was just relieved he was really enjoying himself. He said, “I can’t believe we are getting paid for this, I’d do it for free! Thanks man.” I was really happy he decided to come along because he had such a good attitude. Some of the background actors went to get food and drinks at the table by the elevator, but I was too excited to eat. I explained to my friend that we would be shooting the scenes backwards because of the windows in the apartment needed to be dark for the night scene. I heard a group of people coming down the hallway, it turns out it was a group of more background actors, at least twenty for the party scene, I got excited all over again.
A crew-member directs actors to their position and we wait about an hour to get everything right before we start filming. I never knew that the background actors were completely silent during these group scenes. It was like watching a movie on mute. Only the actors would talk. The talking, walking, music and clinking of glasses were all added in later. This scene was a bit long and had more moving parts so it took about three hours to wrap. All the props used were fun like beer, wine, bottles, bongs, gay-themed pictures, and powder made to look like cocaine were used. I heard one of the crew say they have to head to the Gallagher house after this, so they wouldn’t be done filming until about two in the morning. The entire day was wonderful and I loved every minute of it. The cast and crew was great as well. Noel appeared to be a jokester and really fun to be around from what I saw. Cameron, on the other hand, appeared more serious and reserved. He had a mature and classy gentleman thing going. Both boys have model good looks and are so charming it was fucking alarming. I immediately purchased all the seasons of the show I had missed on DVD and finished them in weeks. My family also got hooked and this just made it mean all the more because I understand the Gallavich history.
