Film star Freddie Highmore took a break from showbiz - and his Cambridge University studies - to chat with Cambridgeshire pupils.
The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor, who has Johnny Depp among his friends, was quizzed by children from Sawston Village College on everything from his favourite chocolate bar to how to juggle a Hollywood career with his education.
The 22-year-old, who is studying Arabic and Spanish at Cambridge, got 10 A*s at GCSEs despite spending much of his childhood appearing in flicks including Finding Neverland, also alongside Depp, and Golden Compass, which starred Nicole Kidman.
He spoke to 57 pupils at Sawston, which has made its own mark on the film world by winning two awards at the National Youth Film Festival for Zombie School: A Survival Guide and Carrot.
Speaking about the event, Highmore said it was a pleasure to meet people who are so enthusiastic about film.
He said: “It was a fantastic experience for me, and for them. It’s always encouraging to go and speak to children in a way that’s not part of a promotional process of people always wanting you to do stuff for a particular project.
“It’s nice to have it completely separate and just speak to people without any agenda. It’s been really rewarding.”
The event was organised as part of Into Film’s programme Behind-The-Scenes, which enables young people from all backgrounds to have access to a creative professional whilst still at school.
Lesley Morgan, arts and development manager at the village college, said he was a hit with the pupils, describing him as “charming throughout”.
Highmore is starring in Bates Motel, a Universal Channel series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho that takes a contemporary look into Norman Bates’ teenage years.
