Fullerton College Student Margaux Brooke will be featured on Oxygen’s new upcoming supermodel competition, The Face. The 22-year-old journalism major had been following Coco Rocha, a coach on the show via social media. Rocha posted that she was going to be on the show as a mentor and was telling girls to audition. “I really wanted to try out, but couldn’t on the audition date due to some prior engagement I had involving the newspaper at Fullerton College. I was an editor at the time and took my job very seriously,” Brooke said. Although Brooke could not make the audition, she was able to arrange an audition at a prior date and tried out.
The competition, hosted by photographer, Nigel Barker, consists of three supermodel coaches, Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova and Naomi Campbell as they search to find The face and spokesperson for ULTA, a top retailer. Brooke is one out 24 contestants who will be on the show airing February 12. The show gave Brooke, along with her fellow contestants a chance to prove their modeling skills as they strive to pass each week, where one contestant is eliminated.
Aside from working for Fullerton College’s The Hornet, Brooke currently works full time as a model for Wilhelmina Model Management. With a packed schedule, Brooke has had to make some important decisions for her career life. “Of course, I should be transferring to Cal-State Fullerton, this semester but due to some unfortunate legislature, a transfer degree for my major will not be available until the fall 2013 semester,” Brooke said. She added that until that time comes, she will be taking a year off to model. “I’m going to work and enjoy life then get back to the journalism grind in spring 2014,” said Brooke.
Being on The Face has not only encouraged Brooke to be more focused, it has given her more confidence to excel in her modeling career and continue her journalism work as a Fullerton student. “I think it’s more about how I will apply what I learned on “The Face” to career as a journalist and as a continued model. I’m much more determined than ever before, and it has made me realize my potential.”
As Brooke plans to continue her modeling career, she added that she is not limiting herself to just modeling. Brooke aspires to be a working journalist for one of her favorite news sites Mashable. “I’m open to either future. I’m determined to be successful and I know whatever I end up doing, it will be something that I really enjoy.”
