It is five long years since Fernando Alonso won the second of his back-to-back titles, and yet it is a measure of his quality that he is still regarded by many of his peers as the finest driver in the world.

If they can't, this powerful personality - who demands and expects the best from all around him - will ensure that behind the scenes, at least, things become more than a little uncomfortable.
