Hello, my name is Zeta. Zeta Hilary Watson. I have a best friend. Her name is Nadia Hills. Today is Friday. It is my favorite day of the week. I don’t exactly know why, but I just love it! I study in Sander’s Junior High, and it is recess now, everyone is talking and talking and talking. (That’s what I like to do.) I am talking with Nadia, well, I’m not exactly talking to her, and she’s the one who’s talking to me. She’s telling me about her birthday party, and hoping that I could go. And of course, my answer was “ Of course I‘ll go to your party, Nadia!” (Her birthday is on March, 23 rd.)
“ Ring, ring, ring…” “ Whoops! There goes the bell!” Nadia said.
“ Yeah, we better get ready for gym class!” I said with a laugh. So we went to change into our gym clothes, and got ready for gym class.
When I got home from school, I did my homework, and took a bath. After that, my mom called me to the living room.
“ What’s up mom?” I asked, and then I saw… my dad! That surprised me, ‘coz, he’s never home until 10:00 everyday!
“ Hey! You’re home so early, dad!” I said, ‘coz I can’t think of anything better than that to say.
“ Your mom called, she’s said it’s some important stuff about,” he said and did a gulp, “ BIRTHDAYS!!!”
“ Oh. Oh! Oh? Oh, oh, oh!!!” I owed. Then I thought about how mom figured out that it’s Nadia’s birthday tomorrow.
So, I asked, “ Ahem, uh, mom, how did you, um, know that it’s Nadia’s birthday to-tomorrow?”
“ What? Nadine? Or did you say, sardine?” mom blinked.
“ Nadia, Beth, she meant Nadia.” My dad chuckled.
“ Nadia!!! It’s not Nadia! Have you gotten out of your mind? It’s your cousin Lauren O’Brien’s birthday!!! Her birthday, not Nadia’s!” mom exclaimed.
“ What?” I asked, and then added, “ When?” Hoping that it wouldn’t be tomorrow, but guess what my mom said?
“ Tomorrow.” Ugh! Why does it have to be tomorrow?
“ You mean my cousin’s birthday is tomorrow? March23 rd? Tomorrow? As in, T-O-M-O-R-R-O-W?” I asked even though I knew it was stupid.
“ Oh, just look at her, Rex! Look at how excited she is!” mom said, or shall I say shouted.
“ N-mo, ad- I mean-mom-dad-mom-dad! Mom! Dad!” I blurted out.
“ Yes, honey?” my dad asked.
“ Sorry about that, it’s just that, Nadia’s birthday is on the same day as cousin Lauren’s, understand?” I asked worried.
“ Yes, so?” mom asked coldly.
“ You see, Nadia is my only and best friend in school, so can’t I just not go to Lauren’s birthday party, and go to Nadia’s? Pretty please?” I begged.
“ Well, it’s up to you.” Mom shrugged.
“ But-”
“ No buts about my dear, your o’ mama knows what’s best for you.” Dad said with a smile.
Mom rolled her eyes. “ Rex, be sensitive.”
“ Right.” He said a bit ashamed.
“ Right.” Mom said.
“ Right.” Dad said.
“ Okay, okay. Enough of the ‘rights’ and tell me what shall I do?” I sighed. Sometimes parents could be really funny.
“ Honey, this is your problem. You should find a way to solve it, not us. We can only be by your side and encourage you. Get it clear?” mom said softly, and put her hand around my shoulders.
“ Okay. I’ll call her.” I sniffed. I feel like I’m going to lose my best friend.
“ Aw, cheer up, honey.” Dad said, and gave me a little punch.
“ Fine…” I said, and squeezed out a horrible smile.
“ So, you want to call now?” mom asked.
“ Okay. But can I do it in my room?” I asked.
“ Sure, I don’t see why not.” Mom said. The same time dad said. “ Of course that’s fine with me.”
So I went upstairs alone, and started to dial Nadia’s hone number 9-4-9-9-3-3-1-8.
“ Hello?” Nadia answered the phone.
“ Nadia!!!”
“ Oyo girl, what’s up?”
“ Well, as you can see, I’m calling about some birthday stuff…” I whispered.
“ Huh? Speak up! Did you say you could see some pretty stuff? Don’t tell me you called just to say that!” she said with a laugh.
“ No! Don’t be silly! Why would I do that?” I giggled.
“ Beats me.” She laughed.
Then I remembered why I called.
“ So, why did you call?” she asked, after laughing for 1 whole minute plus 5 seconds.
“ Uh, well, you see, tomorrow, is um, my cousin Lauren’s err, birth-birthday party. So, I’m VERY sorry to say this, but, I, uh…” Man! How can I tell her this?
“ Hell-lo?”
“ I, I, I just can’t go to your birthday par-” but before I could finish, she hung up.
“ Okay, great. Just great. Just the way I planned it to be!” I said with a huffy breath, “ Now I’m not happy, so is Nadia. I’m a total dope!!!” I shouted to myself.
