Why did you start with Nachtmahr?
I have already been Djing since 7 years, but after opening a club in vienna with some friends I started Djing regularily again. That was maybe the most important factor in creating the urge to start NACHTMAHR. I was really disappointed with Electro/EBM/Industrial in the past few years, so I listened to a lot of rock and other musical styles. Through Djing I got back into the dark electronic styles, where my musical roots are and felt that I needed to do something to satisfy the need for creating brutal, uncompromosing club-oriented music.
What inspires you for making the music of Nachtmahr?
A lot of songs have been written straight when I got home from DJing early in the morning. I could conserve the energy of a night of sweat and extasy and put it into a NACHTMAHR Song. Stylewise there is a 50-50 share of incluences from the Techno Scene and Industrial Scene which I try to incorporate. I try is to deliver the power and energy of hard techno with the harshness and brutality of industrial

Why did you choose a military look for Nachtmahr, it reminds me abit on Feindflug?
The concept of “Art is war” was very clear from the very beginning. As I had nearly decided to become a professional soldier after my military service when I was 18, that whole world is very well known to be. I prefered my musical career for a military career that time but I never could stop seeing a lot of paralells between these two lifestyles, which I wanted to point out in the concept of NACHTMAHR. John Knittel wrote :”a musician can only achieve success through the constant and restless struggle with himself, an effort of strong nerves and energy that only the strongest can survive” ….got the message ?
What was your biggest struggle for making the album?
The first album is always quite hard because you need to create a vision of the sound you have in mind – creating a trademark NACHTMAHR sound. I had to try a lot of different worlds of sounds and atmospheres until I felt “ Yes !, THIS is NACHTMAHR!” The more songs I wrote, the easier it has got to find the general idea that holds everything together.
The “Kunst is Krieg” album is out now for a short period. How are the responses?
The responses are far beyond everything I expected. At first I didn’t really want to release the tracks I wrote, I just played them at my club and gave them to some friends, but in the end everybody came up to me and said “you need to release that stuff, it’s ****ing awesome”, so I did J Already when I put the first songs on my Myspace site the repsonse was overwhelming and when the album was released it was sold out within 6 weeks. The tour with Samsas Traum also gave the the projekt a lot of attention…
Nachtmahr did some concerts in germany already, how did these go and what can people expect from a nachtmahr concert?
I have big plans for further shows, but as usual they are quite megalomaniac J In difference to L’ÂME IMMORTELLE where we have a band playing all music live, NACHTMAHR has to use a lot of artifical elements and so I try to focus a lot on the visual aspect of the show with stage decoration and visuals to create a certain atmosphere.
Who is in Nachtmahr besides you for live performances?
There is no fixed line-up. It can differ from Show to show depending on the budget and size
Does composing music for nachtmahr differ from composing for l’ame Imortelle and in what way?
Oh yes, a lot – it’s a totally different game. With L’ÂME IMMORTELLE the focus on songwriting is a lot on melodies while NACHTMAHR focuses mostly on sound and rhythm.
I really spend a lot of time in finding or creating and then tweaking the drum and synth sounds as well as different rhythmical variations. My 12 years of experience as a songwriter and professional musician are a big help, but I had to go back a few steps, as the method is totally different and I sometimes feel a little bit like when I started out with L’ÂME IMMORTELLE in 1996
In those 12 years of being a songwriter, what is the most important thing you have learned?
That is a very hard questions, cause this time has really developed me as a person, forged my character and made me a more serious person. Musically speaking it is the self esteem to trust your inner voice. When a new song is finished I now instantly know if it’s good enough or not, when I started out I was unsure about the quality of what I created.

Your music reminds me a bit of bands like Noisuf-X and XotoX. Do you think this kind of music is the future of electronic music (also because I see a return of old school ebm), what is your view on this?
There were so many opinions about that already and after all it was just a trend in that style of music, think about “Future Pop” a few years ago. Everybody said: “This is going to be the future” and now people nearly flee the dancefloor, when you spin a future pop track J. There’s always some bands that already have been there and started it all and then a few good ones, that will remain, when the hype is over…
Why did you decide to quit with Siechtum in 2002?
L’ÂME IMMORTELLE took over most of my time and after I had the time again I wasn’t feeling comfortable with the concept anymore, although I still really love the albums I did.
What’s next for Nachtmahr, there are rumors about a new release very soon?
Working on it now… but it’s to early to say more.

    每当我在俱乐部弄完音乐回到家,一些音乐的雏形就在我脑海中成型了。我能保存一晚上潮湿激动的能量,并将它们转化为Nachtmahr的歌。Techno 和Industral在Nachtmahr的音乐里平分秋色,那就是我尝试将Techno的力量与工业那种刺耳毫不让步的霸道力量吸收结合的成果。
3.为什么你选择军事着装?它让我想到了Feindflug。
    Nachtmahr的概念一开始就很明显,那就是'Art is War'。在18岁那年我参过军,那时我想成为一名杰出的军人,但比起军事生活我更偏爱音乐事业。但我从未停止在这两种生活中寻找那个平衡点,这就是我想由Nachtmahr的理念所表现出的。John Knittel说过:“一位音乐家只能通过它坚定不移,永不休止的奋斗取得成功。只有拥有坚强神经与能量的强者才能生存。”你了解么?
4.你做专辑最大的努力是什么?
    做第一张专辑总是很艰难,因为你得为你内心的声音制造出一种视觉(?)——制造出专属于Nachtmahr的声音。我必须尝试世界上各种不同的声音和气氛,直到我感到:“是的!这就是Nachtmahr!”随着我写歌的增加,做起音乐来就越上手。

5."Kunst ist Kreig"现已上市一段时间,它的反映如何?
    它的反映远远超过我的预料,一开先我并不是很想将它们出版,我只将它们在我的俱乐部播放,或者送给我们的一些朋友们。但最后他们都告诉我“你必需出版它 们,因为它们真TM棒!“于是我那样做了。当我把第一首歌放在我的Myspace主页,各种评论如潮水般涌来。当那张专辑开始上市,它在六个星期内就售完 了。和Samsas Traum合作的巡演也给我们带来了点人气和关注。
6.Nachtmahr已经在德国展开了几场演出,它们反映怎样?观众希望看到怎样的LIVE?
对于未来的演出我有更大的计划,但通常它们太夸张了。这于L'AME IMMORTELLE整支乐队现场演奏所有的音乐不同,Nachtmahr必需使用大量的电子设备,于是我尝试将重点放在演出的视觉方面,用舞台装饰和视觉创造一种气氛。

8.为L'AME IMMORTELLE作曲与Nachtmahr作曲有什么不同?
噢,当然,很多不同——这是完全不同的游戏。L'AME IMMORTELLE的音乐将重点放在旋律上,而Nachtmahr主要着重于声效和节奏。我曾花大量时间尝试,然后决定以鼓点,合成音效和不同节奏变化 为主。身为作曲人和音乐人12年的经验对我帮助很大,但我任然需要回退几步,因为这与以前完全不同。我有时决定,这种情形跟我在1996年创立L'AME IMMORTELLE的情形很相似。

关于未来音乐的观点太多了,毕竟这是电子乐的一种倾向。想相前几年的'Future Pop',几乎所有人都说:“未来音乐大概就这样吧”,而现在播放'Future Pop'的舞池几乎没人想去。当然,也有少数乐队依然走俏,因为它们很优秀,就算这种炒作过去,他们依旧出色。
12.你为什么在2002年退出了Siechtum?
因为我把大部分时间花在了L'AME IMMORTELLE上,但我再次做Siechtum时,我对他们的观念感到不舒服,尽管我真的很爱我做的那些专辑。
13.Nachtmahr下个计划是什么?是否准备发行下一张专辑?
继续我们的工作,但是现在谈未来似乎有点太早了。
