Telegram dated 22 November 1963, from President Eamon de Valera to Mrs. Jackie Kennedy, in which he extends to her his sympathy and that of the Irish people on the death of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.

JACKIE WRITES A NOTE TO HER SECRETARY CONCERNING THE FRAMING OF A REPRODUCTION OF A THOMAS JEFFERSON LETTER 
  
> enlargeAn autograph note written on official "White House" notepaper. Jackie wrote to her secretary, May: "May - will just give this to JFK from Pierre - but you pay bill get framed - sent to P. Beach." The note is in reference to a Thomas Jefferson facsimile autograph letter dated June 11, 1807, which Press Secretary Pierre Salinger had presented to President Kennedy as a gift. According to the Sotheby's catalog, Salinger presented the letter with the following words: "To the President, Anytime you get mad at the Press, this will remind you that Jefferson got madder." Even though that Jefferson was a reproduction, it sold for a significant amount of money. Jackie's note is a true original.

The letter is written on "Mrs. John F. Kennedy" stationery with their Washington, DC address, and reads in full: "Dear Mr. Mareau This is the pattern for the marble for my enroignure - I hope you have found some suitable granite gris by now. Would you send it to me at the above address as soon as possible & also return my dining chair. Thank you. Jacqueline Kennedy (over) Please write me & advise what you think the seat pads of the dining room chairs should be - (the room has pale green walls beige taffeta curtains - an Aubisson rug). Should they be pale green taffeta - or off white piped with green?"

The letter is written on yellow lined paper, all in her hand, and reads in full: "Dear M. Ortiz Just to confirm what we discussed the other day. To be done between March 17 and April 4 Living room sofa to be recovered in green Dining Room rug to be added to. Reading lamp attached by my bed. Front hall floor scraped & redone Rug for Bedroom Hall Could I see a sample of it in a lighter shade, before I order it? Rug for Front Hall Could I see what you suggest for here before I leave. I may leave about March 9. I am returning the 2 bookcase lamps for the dining room, as it really looks better without them & we have enough light. Sometime before March 9 I hope we will have a chance to discuss the library. You can send your samples, then I will telephone. Thank you so much for coming on Saturday. Sincerely J. Onassis P. S. 2 of the Library Bookcase lamps need tightening. They sway out into the room. Could you send someone to do this please?"
