I couldn't believe all the range he projected tonight! I mean, he's always been ridiculously talented, but tonight simply blew me away. Absolutely flawless。 SE were beautiful and tragic and amazing. I loved how many different sides we were able to see to them tonight. It's rare, and I love it.

I'm STILL crying. Paul plays the bad guy the way I always envisioned Damon when reading the books. show!Damon! is way worse than Book!Damon!

Stefan at the beginning. He was just a bit happier and more carefree, which I liked. But that comes with a price.
I'm not sure I like Damon's sudden change of attitude from "Here, drinky drinky, human blood, brother." to "OMG, you're so out of control, what have you done, I can't have this right now." Especially since the promo suggests that Damon knew what was going to happen when Stefan got back on human blood ("Ever since he had his first taste of human blood, Stefan was a different person.").
I actually like that it was Elena that hit Stefan with the dart. She cares too much about him to walk away, and I loved that. And that entire scene was beautiful and scary and heart breaking at the same time.
Also, Stefan scared the **** out of me in a very different way than Damon. Damon sometimes has that quiet way of letting you know he's about to snap your neck, whereas Stefan really was simply bat**** crazy.

STEFAN! Oh, man. I love the "subtle" parallels between bloodlust and addiction. Nicely played, show. He really broke my heart, though. Trying so hard to have both things and falling apart at the seams. I think this is why I care more about Stefan than Damon - because I can see the torture of what Stefan's going through in present day rather than watching the remnants of it.
I was torn on how I felt about Damon's reaction. On the one hand I loved that he cared so much and was trying to put a stop to it, but on the other... DUDE, you're the one that did this to him.   I feel like it was some kind of flaw in the writing or Damon's just a rollercoaster of emotion. I mean, the end of 1.17, Damon looks horrified that Stefan is drinking. End of 1.18, Damon purposely leaves blood to make Stefan drink. Beginning of 1.19, Damon thinks it's a terrible idea for Stefan to be drinking and knows he will get out of control. WHUUUUUUUT?
And that Elena/Stefan scene where he pushes her against the wall, then breaks down, and then she puts him to sleep? Jeeeeeeeeeez. So good. I'm not a fan of violence in relationships, obvs, but that felt so real and was probably my favorite ES scene so far.

I don't think you have to be a fan of violence to enjoy this scene. I don't think anybody here is, actually.
But I believe there's a difference between trying to push someone away to spare them further pain like Stefan did here and using someone to get what you want like Damon did in an earlier episode.

I have never really cared for Damon or Stefan, but after this episode I'm team Stefan all the way! He's trying so hard to fight and Paul did an amazing job doing that. Damon I just don't get. His feelings over Stefan drinking human blood changes every episode. I don't understand him at all.

Stefan.. what a badass. I kind of liked it. Even though he was crazy   it was weirdly hot!
Stefan.. flat out scene stealing. He was so mesmerizing on screen.. the car scene i totally agree Aurora   hot!

ok, first of all.. Paul/Stefan... gave me CHILLS.   AMAZING performance. From being all cool and fun to freaking out on Elena... just.. wow. It was quite thrilling to watch him this week I gotta say. I kinda like this side of him, all predator-y   but my heart broke when he was hunting that girl and Elena saw him   he looked so ... i dont know. I'm impressed by Elena's courage and the way she handled the obviously painful step of locking him up.

Stefan played Elena like a fiddle until the end. His actions just screamed addict from the way he lied to her,minimized her worry and fear for him, and twisted her concern for him into something that makes Elena look untrustworthy. He used her absolute trust in him against her. The finale scene between the two of them was perfect. I can't believe the show allowed Stefan to call her stupid and slam her into the wall. I though they would pull back, but they went there. The way PW played that scene, I felt like Elena could be hurt by Stefan at any moment even during their hug. I'm glad Elena fought for Stefan by locking him up and keeping him safe from himself until they can find a suitable alternative to keep him from destroying himself and adding on the guilt that he already carries. They didn't make Elena so naive that the power of her love would cure Stefan. She knew that she needed to carry a dart when she went into the room with Stefan.

While I ship DE, I do think SE have chemistry & found them so adorable during their own dancing scene. I loved Elenas point at him after the whole "no touching." They just seemed like a very happy couple. That whole screen was cute. I have to re-watch the show

And something about Stefan’s “I’m the good brother” stuck out for me. It is not “I’m a better person than this” or something like that but specifically “I’m the good brother”. Which almost gives it a feelings Damon & Stefan have these “roles” cut out for them, since from ‘childhood’, in part due to daddy’s relationship to them, and seem to be playing out according to it even yet… and then there is the fact that, whenever Stefan is lying, he seems to like playing “Damon is evil” game, where he keeps talking about how untrustworthy Damon is or how he is surely enjoying Stefan’s suffering and not being in control etc. which is not really the case, especially not since Damon’s “I’m angry you caused Katherine to be taken away” anger subsided –but even before that there was a line Damon would not cross, as he proved when he gave Stefan his day-walking ring immediately. I think the fact that his “brother” is still somehow in Stefan’s mind as he is kind of losing it completely, and in a “I’m better than him” context kind of served to underline how ‘connected’ they are and also how severe their sibling rivalry is, too.

Stefan has gone nuts, to put it simply. I personally expected it since he had been off human blood for so long that it was bound to have an extreme effect when he got back on. He showed a convincing struggle, constantly at battle with himself, and Paul Wesley really did it well. I really did feel sympathy for his character, because we've known all along this was exactly what he DIDN'T want to become, but now its exactly what he is. And that line: "I'm the good brother" really stuck out for me too, and really simply just tied up one of the dynamics of the show - the rivalry between brothers, that not just outsiders, family and friends consider the good brother being Stefan, and Damon being the evil one - but the brothers themselves view it that way too. Which could also explain Damon's resistance to making any effort to be better.

AHHH! I loved this episode! Totally 100 times better than last week!
I was so happy to see dark!Stefan.Last week was only a hint of the struggle and so I liked this so much more.I really do like Paul,but I've never been a fan of Stefan because he just bored me with his 'I'm just a good guy' bit but this episode I LOVED him.I totally felt his struggle and the scenes with him and Amber were just SO awesome.I actually much prefer Paul's acting when Stefan isn't so straight and narrow.It reminded me a bit of when he played Tommy on Everwood (I'm sure I was in the minority but I loved him!).I hope that once Stefan gets over this,it makes him a bit more well rounded so that he's not just the 'good guy'.I really liked what Damon said about Stefan....we've seen Stefan as the 'model vampire' for all this time that it's interesting to think that he didn't really go about things the right way,by completely denying what he was,instead of training himself when it comes to blood.I'm sure next week will show us why!
think the writers did a really good job with the 'addict' parallel.The last S/E scene totally was in addict speak and for most of it,I was angry with Elena because I thought she was going to just keep thinking that her love would be enough to get Stefan through - which is always the wrong answer in these situations.I was glad when I realized she had a plan.But she still needs to learn to accept all of Stefan.Their relationship has been based on her having this idealistic view of him that he's perfect and that's not fair to him or to her.

I don't think Paul's acting was over the top. Actually, I've been finding myself liking Stefan more & more lately. As for Damon, I must admit I found him twice less hotter in the last episode than in the previous ones. I guess I am just not interested in seeing him being all romantic with Elena.
I am the only one who finds it weird that Damon seems to be becoming more like Stefan from the first episodes (getting closer to Elena and getting nicer) and Stefan becoming more like Damon? uh? it must be te reason why I've found myself being bored while watching Damon's last scenes and interested with Stefan's ones.

Stefan: How does he manage to get more attractive each episode? I love him as the nice guy and I love him as the vampire on the edge - Paul is excellent at both. Same with Ian - and I agree with the above poster, they do seem to have swapped roles recently. I'm liking the out of control Stefan because it gives Paul a chance to show what he can do. It's easy to pass off him as uninteresting (Stefan) when he's always the good boy but there's going to be that duel personality in him, I guess.
