A bill to ensure that Istanbul is ready to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010 was approved in Parliament on the 2nd of November, 2007. The law envisages the foundation of an 'Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency' in order to take necessary action for planning and managing activities as well as coordinating public institutions to that end.
