Beijing MariaDB Server Fest 18.-20.9.2020
MariaDB Server Fest is coming to China! This is the virtual and interactive conference organised by MariaDB Foundation, for the Chinese users of MariaDB.
Venues: Paris, New York, Beijing
We call it Beijing MariaDB Server Fest, like the similar conferences earlier the same week, in Paris for the European and African time zones, and in New York for the American time zones. We provide the same event in three timezones, so that the attendees can attend during daytime hours.
Timing: Fri-Sat-Sun 14:00-19:00
The Beijing event happens during Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 18.-20.9.2020, in the afternoon and early evening. Five hours a day, spread over three days, gives you time to do other things than attend the conference. We start at 14:00, and end at 19:00.
Very interactive, with presenters chatting
The presentations are recorded in advance, in order for the presenter to be able to interact with the audience during the presentation. While the recorded presentation is sent out over Bilibili, the presenter chats with the audience over WeChat. You can ask questions and get them answered by the presenter, and other MariaDB specialists available in the chat.
*Monty, the Founder of MariaDB, will be present*
Michael Widenius, the Founder of MariaDB (and MySQL), will have his own presentation at the MariaDB Server Fest. He will also be present during most of the other presentations. Attending is an excellent way of interacting first-hand with him.
Familiar Chinese tools: Bilibili, ZhiHu, TieBa and WeChat
The Paris and New York events use Youtube for streaming the video presentation and Zulip for chatting. We know that these are unfamiliar and impractical tools in China, so we instead use Bilibili for videos and WeChat for chatting.
Our Bilibili space is created and available on https://space.bilibili.com/663234290
Our ZhiHu space is created and available on https://www.zhihu.com/org/mariadb-foundation
Our TieBa account is created, we will also update our information on https://tieba.baidu.com/f?ie=utf-8&kw=Mariadb&fr=search
Our WeChat chat room is also created, named MariaDB Fest 2020.
What to expect of our presenters
In the Beijing event, we have both Chinese and foreign presenters. Many of the foreign presenters are new to WeChat, so they are not necessarily familiar with how to get Chinese questions translated. We will tell them in advance, but from our experience, we know it can be hard to begin with.
To get the discussion going, the moderators will sometimes translate questions posed in Chinese, into English. This is meant to simplify life for both attendees and foreign presenters.
Welcome, Beijing!
Dear attendees in China, we are truly excited to be with you, and to have got help from Bilibili and others in China, to be able to interact with you the way you usually use the web. Looking forward to all the chats on WeChat!
