美国唱片工业协会（RIAA）在今年8月21日对《颤栗》进行了再认证，确认该专辑已出货至少2900万张，与老鹰乐队（EAGLES）的《精选辑》（THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971 - 1975）并列为美国历史上最畅销的专辑。相信在不久之后，《颤栗》的销量将突破3000万张。
老鹰乐队的精选在2000年时首度超过《颤栗》，成为美国历史上“最畅销的唱片”。在之后数年里，杰克逊的这张录音室大碟始终落后老鹰乐队的精选，屈居第二。现在，这两张唱片终于打平。
不过《颤栗》一直是全球的最畅销专辑，卖出超过一亿张，是老鹰乐队在全球的销量的两倍多。

Eagles followed Their Greatest Hits with their greatest hit, the Grammy-winning "Hotel California." Top 200 ranking: #124.
