Top 10 Dynamic Divas

Webster's defines a diva as "a glamorous and successful female performer or personality," but we don't think that quite covers it.
Divas -- of the rock era, anyway -- have also tended to be trailblazers; impossibly ambitious types who leave their mark by being as outspoken and outrageous as possible.
Talent doesn't always factor in, but to celebrate R&B goddess Beyonce's local gig this weekend -- and because she didn't call us for an interview -- we've made musical skill a prerequisite while assembling this list of our Top 10 favourite divas.
Sorry 'bout that, Britney. Better luck next year.
10) Beyonce: There's a strong argument for either Mariah or Christina to close this list, but if you ask us, Beyonce's the safest bet. She proved her mettle recently when she took a nasty header down an onstage staircase, only to dust herself off and get back to business after barely missing a beat. Couple that with her Destiny's Child output -- and Crazy In Love's neck-and-neck status with Hey Ya! as catchiest pop song of this century -- and it's clear Beyonce will also go down as a new dawn in the Age of Divas.
9) Elton John: Yeah, he's a dude -- but when it comes to flashy, flamboyant and fantastic, nobody does it like Sir Elton. Even before coming out, John was fond of elaborate getups and sparkly accessories, and his affinity for excess is the stuff of legend. Luckily, he's also the hitmaker behind a treasure trove of piano-rock gems, plus he's mellowed lately, becoming a tireless advocate for worthy charities, and the champion of divas-in-training like Eminem.
