Arrow's Cancellation (or Next Renewal) Will Be Decided by Mid-2019
With Arrow receiving an early renewal for an eighth season this week, the inaugural Arrowverse series on The CW has become one of the longest live-action superhero series to date, second only to the network's previous series Smallville. However, the network is aware the series may beginning to show its age, leading it to decide whether it should continue for a ninth season sooner rather than later.
At a panel presentation for the Television Critics Association in Pasadena yesterday, CW President Mark Pedowitz addressed the long runs of several DCTV series and the possible need to replace them with newer, fresher series after the announcement that all five DCTV series would be renewed for additional seasons.
"Things will age and we want to get the next generation of shows to keep The CW DC Universe going for as long as possible," Pedowitz admitted during the panel.
With upfronts for television advertisers to buy ad space during the 2018-2019 regular television season in May, the network is expected to make the renewal or cancellation decision regarding Arrow's future beyond its upcoming eighth season by the event.
