The City of Rutledge received a 19th Century makeover while Steven Spielberg himself roamed around town while directing a film shooting for an episode of “Amazing Stories,’ a reboot series of his shortlived1980s sci-fi/horror show. Actor Dylan O’Brien, who starred in the Maze Runner trilogy and Teen World, was also spotted performing scenes in Rutledge during the film shoot.
Scenes for Amazing Stories were shot last week in Downtown Rutledge, as well as in parts of Bostwick and Madison.
Filming begin on Monday, Jan 14 off Highway 83 outside of Madison and then moved to Bostwick, behind the Cotton gin on Mayor John Bostwick’s farm. Downtown Rutledge received a full makeover for the filming project to transform the heart of downtown into a 19th century town. Rutledge’s iconic gazebo underwent a paint job for the filming, and on Wednesday, Jan. 16, crews began covering the intersection of Fairplay Road and Main Street with dirt.
Rutledge residents witnessed the cast in their time-period costumes during filming and crew members setting up and cleaning up throughout the weekend. Some caught glimpses of Spielberg snacking local cuisine between takes.
