Emmett J. Scanlan apologised to This Morning viewers today for his bizarre facial hair.
The Butterfly actor, who plays the father of a transgender child in ITV’s powerful drama, spoke about how the show could be a ‘game-changer’.
But he briefly stopped the interview to talk about the state of his incredible beard.
The former Hollyoaks heartthrob confessed his "terrible mutton chops" were for a new role.
However, viewers were more concerned with his 'manky' feet that were on show during the This Morning interview.

The actor, who was initially wearing sandals, got out his trotters to reveal his butterfly tattoo.
Shocked viewers took to Twitter after spotting Emmett's feet.
One viewer said: "I used to fancy him when he was in Hollyoaks, after seeing those feet I'm well and truly over it…"
Another added: "I hate feet. Why show us all those manky trotters?"

Emmett didn't apologise for his feet but did make reference to his beard after spotting himself on camera.
"Look at those mutton chops, this is terrible," he said.
"Can I explain briefly why my face looks like this. For the viewers watching Butterfly saying 'what's happened to his face?'.
"The reason why I have mutton chops is I’m doing a gig called Krypton. I play this intergalactic bounty hunter.
I get up at 3am in the morning. It's three hours of make up and at the end it looks amazing. The down side to that is when they take the make up off you get this.

He jokingly added: "I would like to apologise to anybody who has eyes watching this."
Presenter Ruth Langsford thought he was deliberately going for the extreme look.

THIS MORNING left viewers completely distracted during today’s programme after one guest made a very unusual clothing choice for the live ITV television show.
This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford welcomed the star of new ITVdrama Butterfly to the studio floor and viewers were immediately distracted because the actor wasn’t wearing any shoes or shocks.
Emmett J Scanlan plays conflicted husband and father Stephen Duffy on the poignant three-episode tale, but unfortunately his explanation of why he took on the important role was overshadowed.
The star, who also sported a full beard and long hair for the interview, casually draped one leg over the other leaving eagle-eyed viewers unable to ignore his bare foot.
As the interview went on it quickly became clear Emmett wasn’t wearing anything on his other foot either, but in some shots viewers could spy a pair of flip flops under the glass coffee table.
Later, 58-year-old Ruth was keen to point out former Hollyoaks actor Emmett had even gotten a tattoo of a butterfly on the roof of his foot in memory of his latest role.
“That’s not why I’m wearing flip flops by the way,” the actor declared, before giving the camera a close-up of his unmanicured feet.
“My feet look incredible today,” Emmett joked, clearly slightly embarrassed by his feet being on camera for all the UK to see.
Many viewers were repulsed by the sight, as they couldn’t concentrate on the interview at hand.

The Irish actor plays the father who is struggling to come to terms with his transgender daughter, and the show is based around the family adapting to her new life choice. Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning, Emmett was asked about the tattoo by Ruth, who had noticed the large butterfly on his foot and wondered if it was a coincidence.

It’s not why I’m wearing flip-flops! ‘My feet look incredible today,’ he joked. ‘What I do, for any project that has changed me on a professional or personal level dramatically, and most parts do, but for some in particular [I get a tattoo].’

During an interview with This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Emmett removed his flip-flops to reveal the large tattoo and explained: “It’s what I do for any project that has changed me on a professional or personal level dramatically. I get a tattoo to commemorate it. In particular there have been three milestone roles for me.”
As well as his current role as dad Stephen Duffy in Butterfly, Emmett also included his character Charlie Barnum in the 2010 film Charlie Casanova, and his time as village bad boy Brendan Brady in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks as career-defining moments.
As a real-life dad, Emmett admits he was immediately moved by the script for Butterfly, which centres on Vicky Duffy (played by Anna Friel) and her estranged husband Stephen, who discover their 11-year-old son Max has been identifying as a girl Maxine but is now being bullied at school and trying to bury feelings of gender dysmorphia.
“It absolutely floored me,” he said. “I read the three scripts in one sitting. I broke down in parts, I laughed in parts. Tony Marchant, a BAFTA-award winning writer, he penned a beautiful script. The relationships are so real, the topic so relevant.”
Emmett is already busy on his next project as it was recently announced he has joined the cast of the BBC’s hit period crime drama, Peaky Blinders, along with The Hunger Games star Sam Claflin. Returning cast members include Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson. The series will move from BBC Two to BBC One for its fifth series next year.
