Nick has always had a penchant for fashion: he is an avid shopper, wears his hair in a stylish mop, sports a beard, has a cabinet full of sunglasses and a wardrobe full of cool, individual shirts. Now he is applying his creative talents to projects of his own. Before the start of every season, he sits down with Jens Munser to work out a new design for his race helmet. This time, the new look is more striking than ever, with the helmet all in green. The idea occurred to him during his winter break when he saw a green snowboard helmet while he was out on the ski slopes.
Now Nick has been working in partnership with PUMA to create his own shoes. PUMA have been fitting the whole of the BMW Sauber team with footwear for the past three years and they also supply the shoes for the team's F1 collection. The drivers' collection was part of this, but it didn't include shoes. Nick has recently been working in partnership with PUMA on the "Quick Nick shoe project": the racing star selected a pair of sneakers from the PUMA Spring 2009 collection and redesigned these in his own style.
The result is impressive: a fashionable yet timeless sneaker in orange, white and dark brown adorned with Nick's trademark signature and Quick Nick logo: "I like this shoe a lot; it's really cool. For a long time now, I've wanted a shoe that sports my logo and colours. The shoe is typical of my style and wear it a lot of the time," said Nick about his new sneaker.
Up to now, the shoes have been produced as a limited edition for Nick to present to his partners, friends and to members of his team. Last week, Nick called in briefly at Hinwil on his way to Australia and presented pairs of shoes to members of the BMW Sauber F1 Team.
