Drognin Developer Jammer Hi All o/ Today’s maintenance is one of two final steps which will conclude 12 months of work on Robocraft’s back end services. As some of you will remember, Robocraft’s back end was originally built on a service provided by another company. When we had stability issues we would rely on that company to fix them and whilst the servers were down we were at the mercy of this other company to get them up again. If they were at lunch or asleep we just had to wait and ring them to try to wake them up. Freejam decided 12 months ago to build our own back end technology and move control of our servers and the tech that runs them entirely into our own hands – so if stuff goes wrong we could work hard and fix it quickly. An update today and one more at the end of April will complete this transition and all back end technology will be 100% in Freejam’s control. So, if the servers go down we will be able to fix it ourselves, hopefully more quickly, and hopefully because we’re writing the code we’ll be able to ensure they are more reliable too. One of the great benefits of all this is that all the programmers that have been tied up in this work will be free to work on the game, working on things like clans and better social features for example. So, although today’s long maintenance didn’t really change the game in a visible way, we are investing in a brighter future for Robocraft. Thanks for your patience. Note: We expect there to be some growing pains with this new infrastructure as would typically be expected with such a massive change in technology. We’ll be monitoring it all very closely to make sure we have as flawless a transition into our new back end services as possible.
