I listened to the audio-book first and I lost myself in every track. It was nothing complicated and the plots were easy to follow, but there was something fluffy that made me want to smile at myself. After some time, I turned to the book, and it was fascinating as ever. Flipped is more than a love story. It’s about the joys and sorrows of adolescence, more importantly, it shows how a person can change, in a positive way.
When Juliana set eyes on Bryce Loski, she fell in love with him. She was flipped, but her attempts to get close to Bryce were so clumsy. She was totally obsessed with his mysterious and bright blue eyes, and thus she turned a blind eye to his weakness and flaws. The harder Juli tried to catch his eye, the more quickly Bryce escaped from her. He even got himself a girlfriend to keep Juli away. In some way, Bryce was cruel and ignorant. Perhaps this is what a pubescent boy is.
Then things got a little different. Juli still loved Bryce, but she didn’t treat him as the only meaningful thing in the life. She came to realize the weak points of Bryce. In the other way, Bryce also took a different attitude towards Juli. He began to think. And this change of mind was rather delicate. But for Bryce, everything turned upside down when he saw the photo of Juli gripping a sycamore tree. She suddenly looked pretty and attractive to him.
I like Juli very much. She is independent, strong, persistent, special and unique. Bryce found himself more and more fond of Juli, but due to his juvenile behaviour, he let her down badly. Now Bryce was the one chasing after Juli. The part of growing up is really touching. Bryce learned to see through the superficial façade and pluck up the courage to seek what’s important for him in spite of other people’s contempt. As for Juli, she learned not to come to a judgment so quickly and to be tolerant if one strives to change. Girls like Juli, they are jewels to be found.
What I love about this book is that people change, and they change in a positive way.
