At 0721, the Yamato's lookouts spotted the same cruiser they had seen at 0714 and opened fire with her secondary battery. The Yamato then ordered the fleet to make a simultaneous turn to 90 degrees true at 0722. The Yamato's logs read at 0725, " Open main battery gunfire on enemy cruiser. " The next entry was at 0727, and it read, " Enemy cruiser warship, one count, hit and sinks." Within the Yamato's communication logs Kurita at 0725 lists message 250725, " Have sunk an enemy cruiser within minutes."
虽然是Secondary Source，不过 Robert Lundgren的 The World Wonder'd: What Really Happened Off Samar里写的还是很清楚，大和对Johnston的射击过程中，主副炮都参与了射击。且上文中明确写出 "The Yamato's logs read..."，说明作者参考过日方的大和作战纪录，因此“大和号作战日志根本没记载曾经用主炮对航母以外目标开火”、“大和只用副炮射击约翰斯顿”等类似言论，纯属瞎JB扯淡
