(INTERVIEW) JUNG YOONHYE “RAINBOW ARE IDOLS 7 YEARS INTO DEBUT….TIME FOR US TO DO SOMETHING”
Jung Yoonhye (25) of girl group Rainbow has transformed into an actress. She acts as the cute Han Gongjoo in MBC’s daily drama MBC ‘The Great First Wives’ and has let aside her glamorous singer side for a while.
“It’s pleasant and heart fluttering to do something new aside from standing on stage. It is a bit burdensome to do acting since I’m alone instead of being on stage with 7 people all together. It’s scary, nerve-wracking but fun. There was a break between the cast finalization and first filming. I had a lot of burden on how to act. I was very worried so I kept looking at the script.”
Jung Yoonhye worries a lot about how to act well. Her character Han Gongjoo is a bubbly character and she asked for lots of advice from the seniors to know how to express the character in a lovely way.
“I thought a lot whilst watching dramas at home. I’m 7 years into being a singer but new to acting. It’s hard, tiring but fun. I have to monitor to see what is wrong. It doesn’t get fixed at once. I think a lot about how to show myself as the character, Gongjoo. Gongjoo is young but the words she uses is a bit mature. I think she got this because she lived with her grandmother. I feel more warmth from her character because the words she uses isn’t done to make herself act pretty.”
The filming space is a learning space for Yoonhye. She worries a lot about acting through the conversations with the seniors and a time for her to pain over the route she has to take in the future.
“The seniors and teachers helped me a lot. They also told me a lot of trivial stories about acting. Lee Jong Won senior has told me a lot since ‘Eldest’. Kim Ji Young senior practices a lot. I got to realize a lot whilst watching her from the side. The seniors work really hard so I want to work even harder. Being with the seniors and teachers feels like a family. The atmosphere of our filming set is great. I must be lucky (laughs).”
In the drama, Jung Yoonhye is expected to have a love line with rookie actor Choi Won Myung. He is still chasing Jung Yoonhye but the prospect looks like there will be a reversal soon.
“He chases me busily but it will soon be reversed. (Laughs). He chases around so much that it might end up being a lie afterwards? (Laughs) Our story is fun but the middle-age love story acted out by the seniors is fun as well. It will be more fun.”
Jung Yoonhye is the type to lash at herself. She tries her best but she looks ahead by thinking that she has to work harder.
“I got more greedy recently. I am the least recognized member of Rainbow. I am not the one who received gazes from the public. I strongly think that I have to strive harder. So I also had a slump period. The members gave me a lot of courage. I became brighter again thanks to the members. Many people ask if we are greedy for a rookie award, we wish to receive one but that is not our goal. Working diligently on my acting is my goal. I am an idol singer but I’m worried about people seeing my acting uncomfortably. I was sad about the prejudice about me being an idol but not anymore. I am working harder.”
Rainbow was debuted in 2009. It was produced by DSP who succeeded with girl groups Fin.K.L, Kara and many people had expected Rainbow to succeed as well. But there was no big activity shown throughout the long promotions.
“We released an album not long ago but the feedback was hot-cold. It makes you worry. We’re 7 years old now… I’m 27 years old next year. It makes me think that I should do something now. I think there are many people who don’t know that I’m a member of Rainbow. So I think it would be a good idea to make myself known through acting and let people know about the group Rainbow. When I stand on stage later, I think it would be nice to hear the words ‘Ah Jung Yoon Hye from the drama was part of Rainbow?'”
Was it because of the growing pains she’s gone though. Rainbow has a great friendship than any other group. Jung Yoonhye shares many conversations about acting with Koh Woori who is currently acting in MBC’s weekend drama ‘Flower of the Queen’.
“Unnie and I talk a lot about acting. We ask each other lots of questions. I have 6, including unnie, reassuring loves. We talk to each other when we have a hard time. When I don’t look at the chatting room for a while there are 100s of notifications. (Laughs) Rainbow for me is the place where I find peace. There are things I can’t say because my family may get worried. These things can be said to the members. In the chatting room if I say I want to practice my script, one of the 6 comes to my place. We do not get jealous of one another. We back up and support each other. The other members say if I do well with acting, Rainbow will succeed as well. I also think that Rainbow will succeed if the other members do well in a different area as well.”
Jung Yoonhye was cheerful throughout the whole interview. We have had an interview with the members of Rainbow once but she is talking alone as she’s in the drama ‘The Great First Wives’. She speaks logically despite their absence and shared a pleasant conversation. She’s the type to make a person comfortable.
“I wear comfortably usually. I have no high heels at home. I am bad with high heels. (laughs) I don’t apply make up as well. I am bad with make up. (laughs) The makeup artists do me prettily when I’m on stage or acting so I go around comfortably usually. I go around so comfortably that the members do my makeup. Our members have great dexterity. Jaekyung unnie hold onto me and orders me to do makeup. (Laughs)”
