Mr. Incredible and his family are about to get back into the red spandex.
Brad Bird, who wrote and directed 2004's Pixar hit The Incredibles, told Collider that his next film will be its sequel. He revealed that he already has "a bunch of pages" written for the film's script.
"I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn't get a chance to use, that I like," Bird said. "I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit, and there wasn't enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie."
Bird said he is currently focused on the May 22 release of his film Tomorrowland, and then he will start "playing with the Incredibles sandbox again."
The director, who counts Iron Giant and Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol among his credits, also said that he has talked to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the possibility of directing one of theStar Wars films.
"I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up [a film in the franchise], and J.J. [Abrams] got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too," Bird said. "But I'm writing [the Incredibles sequel], and I can't think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well."
The Incredibles, featuring the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Jason Lee and Samuel L. Jackson, grossed $631.4 million worldwide and picked up two Oscars, including best animated feature. In March 2014, Disney announced that a sequel is in the works.
