How many other bands have been on the cover of TIME magazine?
U2 appeared on the cover of the April 29, 1987, issue with a headline of "Rock's Hottest Ticket." But it's not quite as rare as originally thought for a band to make the cover of TIME. The Beatles and The Who were also honored like that. The Canadian group The Band was on TIME's cover on the issue dated January 12, 1970. And many solo performers have been on the cover, including David Byrne, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder ... and Bono, who made the cover by himself on TIME's March 4, 2002, issue. [M2, JT, JP, PA]
