There are plenty of places like Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia where the mainland Chinese can shop without being hassled like in Hong Kong. Hong Kong people are nasty rude people - even the shop workers think they are doing you a favor to sell to you. Hong Kong will learn it's not good business to hassle visitors and shoppers.

It's much more complicated. The rush of Chinese tourists is not only causing cost of goods to increase, but, rental properties. They not only purchase products from retailers, but, are allowed to invest into the HK real estate market. Residential property has sky rocketed over the last 10 years and commercial property rental increases about 25% - 35% per year. It's a chain reaction which causes local HK people to be priced out of the market. Salaries in HK only increase about 2% - 5% per year. There is a huge disparate between wages and increased cost in HK and it is directly related to the influx of tourist money and corruption money coming from China. Also, the HK infrastructure cannot accommodate this many people each month. As I said, this is a much more complicated issue than the article reflect.
