The latest issue of the magazine will come out next Monday.
issue在本句中指报刊、杂志的“期,号,版次”,表示最近一期可以说the latest issue,“五月刊”则可说the May issue。
An issue of something such as a magazine or newspaper is the version of it that is published, for example, in a particular month or on a particular day.
除了最常用的publish,表示“出版”的时候我们还可以用appear或come off the press,press也就是印刷机的意思,go to press即指“付印,开印”。
When a new product such as a book or CD comes out, it becomes available to the public.
The facts will be known in due time.
in due time/course均指at the right time,即“适时地,在适当的时候”。
If you say that something will happen or take place in due course, you mean that you cannot make it happen any quicker and it will happen when the time is right for it.
At one time, people would not have hesitated to light up a cigarette in stations, restaurants, or hospital waiting rooms.
at one time指“一度,曾经”,类似的我们还可以用once或once upon a time。
接下来看几个和time有关的易混词组:at times,at a time,at one time和at the time。
at times指“有时,不时”,如“She is annoying at times.”,她有时候很烦人;at a time作“一次,每次”讲时常用于“数词+at a time”结构中,比如“Take two pills at a time.”,一次吃两颗药;at one time指“曾经”;at the time则指“那时”,比如“She was still with him at the time.”,那时他们还在一起。
If you say that something was the case at one time, you mean that it was the case during a particular period in the past.
hesitate to do something指因有顾虑而不愿意做某事,相对的,毫不犹豫地做某事则可以说do not hesitate to do,或者用unhesitatingly, straight away, right off the bat等。
If you hesitate to do something, you delay doing it or are unwilling to do it, usually because you are not certain it would be right. If you do not hesitate to do something, you do it immediately.
If you light up, you make a cigarette, cigar, or pipe start burning and you start smoking it.
We would write out the directions, in case you got lost.
write out的释义比较多,在表示“开具(支票、收据、处方等)”时,wirte out和write同义,可以互相替换,比如“开支票”,write (out) a cheque。此外,write out也可指“写出(篇幅较长的报告或清单)”,比如“write out the application form”,指填写表格,而不是做表格。
When you write out something fairly long such as a report or a list, you write it on paper.
in case在本句中指“以免,以防,免得”,也可以用just in case来替换。此外我们也常用for fear that,so as not to,lest等。
看起来比较复杂,举个例子就好懂了,比如“In case you didn't notice.” 或者“In case you're wondering.”,要是你想知道的话。
If you do something in case or just in case a particular thing happens, you do it because that thing might happen.
You use in case in expressions like 'in case you didn't know' or 'in case you've forgotten' when you are telling someone in a rather irritated way something that you think is either obvious or none of their business.
