Each person is surrounded by a giant bubble, within which are smaller bubbles, filled with things relevant only to their world: their secret thoughts, their hidden desires, their innermost emotions, their burnings loves, their seething hates, their enigmatic pasts, their mundane present...
I've seen bubbles that stretched out for miles, as well as ones that tightly hugged the person. It's unclear to me still what the color of the bubble indicates - some people's bubbles are monocolor, or composed of a few very distinctive shades, while others are splashed with various streaks of the rainbow. I suppose those must lead a very colorful life. Each bubble is also continuously shifting in form, never looking quite the same as what I last remember.
To a stranger, the bubble is like a protective barrier - you cannot see a person clearly until they invite you into their bubble. Of course, you don't have to enter to interact with someone, but then only hollow exchanges can ensue. The easiest way to go inside someone's bubble is to be invited in. Albeit, I have seen break-ins before, but those are usually due to negligence on the owner's part, and can be remedied. Once you enter, a miniscule self-bubble slowly materializes inside, its shape and form conforming to your own bubble. Some skilled at the art boast the ability to create drastically different shapes in different people's bubbles, fabricating the kind of self-bubble they wish the owner to see. The presence of these bubbles ensures that a part of you is left within, forever.
As for the other bubbles floating around inside, you have to be careful which ones you touch; once contact is made, it will replicate and materialize inside your very own bubble. For good reasons, the owner won't let you touch some of them, and others you simply might not want inside yours. There are also virus bubbles that will multiply endlessly until you come up with a cure.
There are people who prefer to only reside within a few people's bubbles for an extended period of time, while others come and go like the wind, perhaps even loosing track of how many self-bubbles they have created. I've always enjoyed entering a new bubble, but I've found it difficult to stay. Sometimes, my self-bubble grows and becomes too deformed, and I back away out of fear. Other times, my self-bubble wanders around and I simply do not know how to mold it anymore. There seems to be no purpose for it, and so I choose to leave.
So far, no one's been able to come up with an effective way to destroy a bubble. You can reduce its size, tone down its color, and try to forget about its existence, but it's always there. Only when a person dies, does the outer bubble evaporate. The smaller bubbles inside float out, and can be taken in by other people. If they aren't, they slowly fade over time, becoming more and more transparent until they too vanish, leaving nothing but a trace of the richness (or lack of) that once resided within.
