4. Think like the puzzle author. I find this technique very useful. When I am alittle perplexed about a puzzle, I take a step back, and think: how would I write this puzzle? What’s the great idea that everyoneon my writing team thought was good enough to go into the final set? Where isthe elegant bit? What about the complex part? Is there something that may seemobvious to me and my team, but not to others? How can I provide clues to thesolver to lead them to solution, but gently, without prodding?
Most of these arethings you will be thinking about anyway, but actually asking yourself how youwould do them gets your gears going faster.
