I was told (and later found out) that 3 protesters from a human rights group in France started causing a ruckus during BOCOG president Liu Qi's opening address. We didn't get a live feed of that in the studio, but if we did, I'm not sure what exactly I'd be commentating on. The Olympic charter states that sports and politics should not be married like salt and pepper, but as we know, ideals on paper don't often transcend to reality.
I felt extremely honoured that He Zhenliang was one of our guests. He's like the Pierre de Coubertin of the Olympic movement in China; the engine behind bringing the Olympics to Beijing. He's devoted over half his life to this dream. Having him sit there across from us in the studio, in front of an actual Olympic torch 137 days from the "triple 8", was a truly mesmerizing moment.
