The series has been building to a final showdown between Sid and Mike all season as the tension between the two has only escalated in the last few episodes. As Mike became more and more obsessed with taking Sid and the Serrano cartel he strayed farther and farther away from the idealistic, and maybe naive, Mike Warren that walked through the doors of Graceland in Season 1.
"It*s been so much fun for me to see the student become the teacher, but really this idealist becomes a cynic. To do good undercover work and to get things done you do have to compromise things," Tveit says of Mike*s character arc this season. "Mike was just doing his job and in my opinion, doing a great job. The fact that other people were personally caught up in his wake -- that wasn*t his concern."
Of course, the most shocking part of the finale was not Sid taking out Mike, but the fact that it was Paige who gave Sid Mike*s location. Paige has been obsessed with finding out the truth about Lina*s disappearance since Mike told her she ran away. When Mike confesses that Lina is dead in mid-delirium Paige crosses the ultimate line to get justice for her friend.
"[The] conflict has been that I*m just trying to do my job and she hasn*t been able to separate her personal feelings from getting the job done," Tveit says. "[Mike] is like *Yes, the girls are in danger but how do you not understand there*s 1,000 more I*m trying to protect?* That was the biggest thing that she didn*t understand."
Paige does inevitably tell Briggs what she*s done, but it is possibly too late. By the time Briggs arrives at the hospital room, Sid has already disappeared and Mike may already be gone. USA has not announced a Season 3 for the crime drama yet, but we asked if -- in a fantasy world where Mike lives -- there is hope for Paige and the Graceland family.
"I don*t see how [redemption for Paige] could happen. From Mike*s standpoint, I think the Paige thing is really, really tough. It*s not good," Tveit laughs.
"I don*t think Paige will be what Mike wants to deal with [if] he wakes up. Hopefully there*s a Season 3 and Mike wakes up and when he does he*s going to say to Briggs if he*s there, *Dude, Sid knows where the house is. Sid knows we all live together. Sid knows you*re undercover. Everyone is in danger.*" he explains. "In my dream world, if Mike wakes up that*s what he*ll be saying."
