According to the official composition submitted by Russian Volleyball Federation which ligand been posted on FIVB recently, our legendary volleyball player with two-time world champion Lyubov Sokolova changed her number from #5 to #9 unexpectedly. The original number #5 is assigned to Alexandra Pasynkova who has been wearing the #5 jersey for a few years when Sokolova is off the team.
What is the reason behind this arrangement? Here are several speculations:
Sokolova did not return the national team until the last minute, while Pasynkova has been taking #5 jersey for some time. Now, the World Championship will start very soon, the national team is still uncertain if Sokolova will come back or not (Luba has basically confirmed her return to national team recently), so the Russian Volleyball Federation just randomly assigns a number to Sokolova?
In other case, Gamova still manages to use her signature #11 number on her jersey. Is that mean, Gamova insists taking #11 which means much to her?
It’s too soon to make any conclusion though, we all believe that an experienced player, no matter what number they take, they would perform at their best to demonstrate to the world their value and role in the team.
