Saints Under-18s registered their first league point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon at Staplewood.
Amidst what coach Anthony Limbrick felt was a scrappy first half, Callum Slattery handed Southampton the lead when he charged forward to meet Dan Demkiv’s pass across the face of goal and netted from close-range.
The one-nil score didn’t last long, though, as Spurs levelled with a strike from an acute angle.
After setting up his side’s opener, Demkiv couldn’t re-establish the hosts’ lead when in a one-on-one situation, before Armani Little failed to do the same when in on-goal.
The visitors returned after the restart on the ascendancy and nearly stole a victory late on but substitute Neal Osborn, who replaced the injured Harry Isted, tipped over the crossbar to salvage the draw.
