A cat may be blood-type A but still carry the recessive gene for blood-type B. If two carriers of blood-type B are bred together, there is a probability of some kittens being blood type B.
一只猫有可能是A型但仍然携带B型隐性基因。如果两只携带着B型基因的猫放在一起培育，就有一定的概率一些小猫会是B型血。

The inheritance and full implications of the rare AB blood type is not yet understood. Note that "Ab" means a blood-type A cat carrying the recessive "b" gene and is different from a blood-type "AB" cat. Blood type B is shown by upper case "B". The recessive gene for that blood type is shown by lower case "b".

Some breeds are more likely than others to have type B. This may be because the foundation cats, purely by chance, didn't have the recessive "b" gene or it may be that the recessive "b" gene has been bred out of the gene pool (recessive genes are notoriously hard to eradicate as they can be carried undetected for many generations before meeting up with another carrier).

Type A is the most common feline blood type, present in up to 94%-99% of all domestic shorthair and longhair cats in the United States.

The frequency of the feline blood groups varies both by breed and by location within the United States. The lowest frequency of type B cats is in the Northeast and North Central/Rocky Mountain regions. Higher frequencies of type B cats are found on the West Coast, peaking in the Northwest with 6% type B cats.

Siamese cats and related breeds with oriental blood have thus far all been shown to have type A blood. The American Shorthair breed, due to its close relationship to non-pedigreed shorthair cats, is also largely blood type A. However, some other breeds may have astoundingly high numbers of type B cats. The frequency of the blood types does not vary geographically for pedigreed cats.

Blood type surveys of various purebred cats have shown that Siamese, Tonkinese, and Oriental Shorthair cats all have type A blood, perhaps because other types have been bred out, as breeders have selected for certain physical characteristics. On the other hand, the British Shorthair, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, Exotic, Ragdoll, Turkish Van, and Turkish Angora have an unusually high frequency of type B blood.
