"At worlds I was told I’d be competing all around the day we started competing. Even the coaches didn’t know because me and Brenna we’re fighting for that last spot. I probably would have been a little bit disappointed if I didn’t get to compete all around because that was my goal."
"Leading up to worlds I only trained a full beam routine for about a month. I didn’t get as long of a training period as I usually have."
"After my floor in qualifications I thought I would make the finals. And I never think about that stuff. It was hard for me because I worked really really really hard on floor. I did so good at championships and at camp and I thought I would make the final if I did it like that. If you watch the routine it was a good routine. I didn’t mess up on anything. With the new code I think they were able to take away from the pose before the tumbling pass. It’s kinda sad when you’re doing a really hard floor routine and you’re getting points taken away for a little dance thing before a tumbling pass. But that’s gymnastics and you have to deal with it. I tied with Kyla. Every routine she did she got a 14.333, which is kinda weird because she did it different every time. I got a 14.333 but she has a higher execution score so I was kicked out. It was hard to watch the final because I was wishing I was in it. It was great to watch Simone and Kyla but still bittersweet. Whatever. I can’t even pick out what I did wrong in that floor routine. I was honestly just underscored a little bit and it happens. It happens to world champions. They take you out of a final because of the scoring. Hopefully they can’t do that to me in 2014!”
"I want to be able to hit consistently like Kyla does. Every time you’re not scared to watch her because you know she’s good. For me it’s like "Here comes McKayla, what’s she going to do today?!" So I need to get more consistent and add a few things. Sometimes you train a skill and it’s like "oh this is great" until you put everything together and you can’t complete the routine."
"I’m probably going to have to upgrade not only my amanar but also my second vault. I wanted to do a triple twisting yurchenko and add the extra half twist to my second vault, but competing it is a whole different story. I definitely wasn’t planning those upgrades for 2013 Worlds because I didn’t have any time to train the two vaults together. That’s my goal for this year. I at least want to do the triple. It’s important not only to me, but to the team."
"I have been working the 3 1/2 twist on floor a little bit but the thing about that skill is that it’s painful for me. The angle you have to punch at hurts my back but that’s really the only problem. I know Artur kind of wants me to put it back in."
"A lot of people thought I wasn’t serious about acting and it was more for fame. It’s never been like that. I got into acting when I was 8. Anything I do, I do from my heart. I don’t do anything for fame or money. That’s just…ewww, no!"
