should private cars be encouraged?
A: no, private cars should not be encouraged because more cars would cause more pollution to the air since this will increase the amount carbon dioxide released in the air, which will make the global warming happen faster.
B: certainly, private cars make personally lives much easier by providing convenience to the owners of the cars; the owners of the cars can drive the cars around when they need to, and the private cars can save a lot of time.
A: you are right in that aspect. however, if everyone owns a car, then the pollution in the air will become a lot more intensified, and we don't want that to happen because we want to live in a safe and happy environment. we don't want to face global warming at an earlier time than we need to. also, public transportation is very convenient too, private cars are not the only things that can provide us our needs.
B: but still, don't you think public transportation takes too long?
A: you are only concerning our everyday lives, you are not looking at our future. in the long run, private cars will not benefit us at all if global warming occurs. public transportation only takes a little bit more of our time everyday, also we can walk too and it's also healthier for you if you walk because it's an exercise. if you drive around all the time then you won't get any exercise.
B: that's true. so i guess we shouldn't encourage private cars.
Although private cars in modern society are glorified by many people, there are others who are especially critical of having private car when cartain things are carried to excess.
There are many reasons for it. The most important one of which, I would propose, is too many cars will lead to block. Additionally, private car is a contributing factor accounting for air pollution.
Too many cars have created a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides congestion, accidents and fast fuel consumption, cars are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities. All the time, they are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere. These gases are very harmful, causing disease and even death. Last winter, car fumes formed heavy smog over Beijing, making the sky gloomy for weeks and deteriorating people's health.
One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In Tsinghua University, campus buses are driven by electricity. In Beijing some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as the petrol. But it may take decades for the new models of clean cars to completely replace the traditional ones.
Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars. If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not private cars. And the total number of cars in big cities will reduce greatly. On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the co-efforts from the government, the public and the environments. This problem will be solved only with the help of science and technology.
