1984年和1991年，以色列在美国的帮助下曾进行过两次大规模的犹太人回国运动，此后又多次接收过少量“法拉沙人”。目前，以色列境内的大约定居着12万来自埃塞俄比亚的黑种犹太人。这些本来过着中世纪生活的黑皮肤乡下人，突然被带进了由欧洲犹太人建立的高度现代化的社会，受到相当的歧视。

不过，以色列媒体一直指控，官方机构曾强迫来自埃塞俄比亚的犹太女公民在移民以色列之前和之后接受避孕注射，以此确保以国黑人人口数量保持较低水平。
去年12月中旬以来，有关以色列国家人种偏见的怀疑更加强烈。在电视纪录片《真空》中，35名埃塞俄比亚人表示，如果在中转营地不同意注射药效三个月的避孕针安宫黄体酮制剂(该药大剂量使用可用作长效避孕针)，就会一直受到威胁。有些移民者在营地滞留了好几年。有的人还怀疑移民者抵达以色列后会继续接受药物注射。
据以色列报纸《Haaretz》报道，一名女性称自己被告知安宫黄体酮制剂是用来修复疫苗效果的，并且每三个月发放一次。在一段暗访当地女护士的视频中，一名女护士表示是对埃塞俄比亚人进行过注射，因为她们什么也不知道，而且还会忘记自己注射过药物。

据悉，在以色列共居住了近12万埃塞俄比亚犹太人，有意见认为他们是被从圣地流放后在非洲定居的。1此后，在埃塞俄比亚遗留的犹太人已为数不多。
