These ultracapacitors were used in a hybrid bus application, and removed in an upgrade. They were in service about 12 months and were working fine when removed. These are the next generation of energy storage, and will eventually replace batteries in many applications. They are very similar to normal capacitors, except they have enormously more energy storage capacity. They have the following advantages over batteries:
Can be charged and discharged far more rapidly than batteries (almost instantaneously in most applications)
Not affected by temperature extremes
Virtually unlimited life (over one million charge/discharge cycles)
No complex charge controller necessary, just be sure the voltage never exceeds the unit's rated voltage of 2.5V
Contain no acid or corrosive chemicals
Basic specs:
