From artemismoon12 Hummelberry and Blina- Brotp comparison I see people saying in the tags that “Blaine and Tina are the new Kurt and Rachel”. I see there is some validity in this, but then again maybe not. Yes it’s glaringly obvious this is a gay boy and a straight girl being best friends. However I think it’s important to know not all friendships are the same because the processes of those friendships and the people involved are very different. Kurt and Rachel were rivals, they insulted each other and thought they were competition. They became friends-mostly consisting of petty comments, ‘best gay’ comments, and common interests like trashy movies and being goofy musical theatre kids. They like to sing together giant numbers like “For Good” and control one another (see the whole of NY), but Kurt is also damn good at comforting Rachel, and she tells Kurt to chase his dreams. They are very selfish, competitive people with some maturity issues- but they;re also driven and support each other after a lot of digging. Blaine and Tina were never bitter rivals. Tina and Blaine possibly were almost friends- at least through background moments with their boyfriends. They did sing together at prom, with Brittany before they had the opportunity to explore onscreen relationships with people who weren’t Mike and Kurt (Tina moreso than Blaine). Tina was momentarily jealous of Blaine for being the ‘new Rachel’ and was rude, Blaine responded without animosity. They then became friends quite naturally through mutual roles in student activities, discussing personal relationships (as assumed by Tina’s interest in the Klaine breakup) and Glee. Tina also developed a crush on Blaine and pushed boundaries to an unacceptable level- not once did Blaine insult her or treat her coldly, instead trying to be a good friend to her like she was when she talked to him about Sam. They made up over her non-consensual straddlng and rubbing of his chest, since then bonding over their student roles, support given to one another, and emotional bonding. Blaine is a much more mature person, seemingly balancing out Tina’s new manipulative sassy attitude- but deep down Tina is a kind girl and Blaine wants the best for everyone. They support each other because they genuinely want to for who the other person is- but it’s strange they don’t get pictured doing the typical ‘best friend’ things like Hummleberry did with their sleepovers. I would argue that because of the people involved- Blaine and Tina having a much longer history of empathy, and a darker issue between them it does not make them “the new Kurt and Rachel”. Kurt and Rachel are almost cutesy- watching movies and sidehugs before running off to thier NY boyfriends. Blaine and Tina are holding each other when they cry and sitting in student council at both heads of the table. They’re not better or worse than one another but they are not the same: Blaine and Tina are not the new Kurt and Rachel: Hummelberry are besties, Blina are a platonic powercouple.
From animeangelriku See, THIS is what I’ve always wanted for Blaine and Tina. To be best friends. To be a support system for each other when they need to be. To be there for each other when they need someone to tell them it’s going to be okay. Their scene in the hallway and their final interactions during Say were absolutely flawless.
