Teachers' performance should be evaluated
by students rather than by other teachers
To choose to evaluate teachers' performance
by students or by other teachers has become a dilemma to high schools and
colleges since feedback of quality a teaching class is so important to improve
the education quality. Some people believe other teachers would make the
evaluation from a much more professional point, however, I think to evaluated
by students is a better choice to bring unexpected effects.
Since students came to school, they are the
subjects receiving teachers' knowledge. From a lesson, students know exactly if
they understand what teacher is talking about. As the essential factor in the
assessment process of teaching level, the class performance and teaching method
are the most direct way to judge how the teacher is in classroom. No one would
know more about the teacher's class quality than students. In China, a teacher
would teach over 100 student for more than 3 hours class-time per day in a
public high school. And the large number and time that students spend with teacher,
in class or personal, are suitable and persuasive to assess the teacher's
performance. So students’ assessment of teacher can provide more information
and ground views which stand of them
.
I can say sincerely, from a view of
student, I enjoy and am willing to evaluate my teachers' performance in class
because it relates directly to me about my study. This brings a obvious point
about how objective the evaluations are made by students and teachers. As a
matter of fact, students will not judge the teacher's teaching on personal
reasons, and small parts of them who did that will not influence the whole
evaluation. However, misunderstanding and prejudgment exist in evaluation
between colleagues. These might base on personal benefit or just personal view,
but they are enlarged since teachers' number is so small contrary to students.
And on the other hand, if students think the teacher performs well and do learn
a lot from him or her, the teacher is well-evaluated even though other teachers
do not appreciate his work base on different reasons. Therefore, accuracy makes
there no doubt that performance should be evaluated by students.
