Rendering in the Delivery Page
Now that you’ve made adjustments to all five clips in this sequence, it’s a good point to stop grading
and render out a version of this project for the evaluation of your hypothetical client.
1. Click the Deliver button, at the bottom of the Resolve window, to open the Deliver page.

The Deliver page is where you render your color corrected program, creating the final media
that can be sent to another NLE or finishing application for whatever final work needs to be
done, such as titling or additional effects work.

You have the option of rendering each clip as an individual media file, or you can render the
entire timeline as a single piece of media. In this case, you’ll use the latter option to output an
      evaluation movie.

In the Render Settings list at the left, choose a clip format and codec from the Render to and
codec pop-up menu. If you have Final Cut Pro installed on your system, you might choose
QuickTime Apple ProRes 422 (LT). If you’re an Avid user, you might choose one of the DNxHD
        codecs.
        3. Make sure that the “Render timeline as” radio buttons are set to “Single Clip,” which is what
specifies that Resolve will render the entire timeline as a singe clip.
        4. Click the Browse button, and use the file browser to choose a directory to render the media to.
After selecting a directory you can also add a subfolder by using the slash (/) after the directory
name and then entering a new folder name. The initial directory could be for example on
the desktop, /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/Your Name/Desktop, and you can add another
folder with /Renders. The new folder for the rendered clip would be /Volumes/Macintosh HD/
        Users/Your Name/Desktop/Renders.
Note: If this folder has clips which are the same file name as your new clip Resolve will warn you
and if you accept it will overwrite these clips. Of course, if the clips have a different name the
existing clips will not be overwritten.
        5. Once all this is done, click the Add Job button, underneath the Render Settings list, to add the
current render setup to the Render Queue.

A progress bar will show you the countdown of how much longer rendering will take, while the
Viewer shows you what’s being rendered at that moment

When rendering is complete, the progress bar turns green, and that job appears with a green
checkmark. At this point, you should save your project again, and take a well deserved break.
This is the end of the tutorial.
Obviously there are many, many more features available in DaVinci Resolve, but this tour should
have given you a good idea where, in general, everything is. The rest of this User Manual will go into
specifics about all of these features and more

When you install DaVinci Resolve and then open it for the first time, there are a few things you’re
going to want to do before you begin working on your first project.
Creating a User and Logging in
DaVinci Resolve was originally designed as a multi-user application for professional grading suites
where an elaborately appointed room at a high-end facility was being shared among a stable of
colorists. Resolve is still very much used in that capacity, so the login screen provides the interface
that’s used to create and manage multiple users on a single workstation.

                The Color Page User Interface
The Color page is divided into seven main areas that work together to let you build a grade. This
section provides an overview of what these areas are and how they function.
                Viewer
The Viewer shows the frame at the current position of the playhead in the Timeline. At the top of
the Viewer is a header that displays the Project and Timeline names, as well as a Viewer Timecode
display that shows the source timecode of each clip by default. A scrubber bar underneath the
image lets you drag the playhead across the entire duration of the clip, while transport controls
underneath that let you control playback. Additional controls let you loop playback, switch Unmix
mode on and off, and choose which on-screen controls are currently displayed. More information
about using the Viewer appears later in this chapter.

                  Gallery
                  The Gallery is used for storing still frames to use as reference, and grades you might like to copy;
stills and grades are stored together. A button lets you open up the Album browser, used for
organizing your stills. At the bottom of the Gallery, Memories let you store grade information that
you can apply using a control surface or keyboard shortcuts. The Gallery on the Color page mirrors
the contents of the Gallery page. For more information on the Gallery page, see Chapter 7, “Using
                  the Gallery.”

                    Node Editor
The Node Editor is where you assemble one or more individual corrections (nodes) together into
a complete multi-correction grade (node tree). This is a powerful way of assembling grades, since
different types of nodes let you create different combinations of corrections and very specific
adjustments by reordering operations, combining keys, or changing the layer order of different
adjustments. More information about the Node Editor appears in “Node Editor Basics.”

                      Timeline
The Timeline provides several ways of navigating the clips in your project, as well as keeping track
of what has been done to which clips. The Timeline is divided into three parts, each of which shows
different information and provides differing controls.
A Timeline Ruler at the top lets you scrub the playhead across multiple clips, and can be zoomed
out enough to show every clip in your entire program.

                          Customizing the Color Page
The various sections of the Color page can be resized, hidden, and rearranged as needed to
accommodate different working styles. This section covers all of the methods that are available for
                          Color page customization.
You can easily resize the Viewer, Gallery, and Nodes Editor relative to one another to make the
Viewer larger, expand the width of the Nodes Editor to have more workspace, or to create more or
less room for stills in the Gallery.
To resize the Viewer, Gallery, and Node Editor:
                          >>Move the pointer over the vertical divider between any two areas. When the resize icon
appears, drag the divider to the left or right to make one area larger while making the other
                          smaller.
You can also fully expand the Gallery, the Memories, the Nodes Editor, and the Keyframe editor to
replace completely whichever interface area is adjacent.

                            To alter a user’s settings:

the Account Settings dialog for that user, in which you can change all of the settings you
                            originally defined.
                            >>You can also Right-click any user icon to choose customization options from a contextual
menu, for changing a user’s icon and password.
                            To delete a user:
                            >>Right-click on a user you’ve created, choose Delete User, then click Yes to confirm when
                            prompted.
Warning: Deleting a user also deletes all of the projects and PowerGrades associated with that user,
so do this with care, and if necessary, first back up all projects and/or databases associated with
                            that user.
By default, every new installation of DaVinci Resolve starts out with two logins that cannot be
deleted. The admin has special privileges for setting system configuration presets, while the guest
login is useful for visitors to your suite who just need to log in quickly to get some work done.
To log in as a user:
                            1. Use the scroll bar to find the login you want to use, and do one of the following:
                            >>Click to select a user’s icon, then click Log In.
                            >>Double-click any user’s icon to log in as that user.
                            >>Right-click on a user, and choose Login User.
                            2. If your login is password protected, you’ll be prompted to enter it now.
Before you log in, if you’ve just installed DaVinci Resolve and have opened it for the first time, it’s
                            time to set the preferences
