Yesterday, Sandra Oh hinted in an interview that she will be doing a play "in a year or so", and today the Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago could confirm that they will be setting up a production of 'Death and the Maiden' by Ariel Dorfman with Sandra Oh as the lead character, Paulina. The production will run between Jun 13 - Jul 13, 2014 and will be directed by Chey Yew.
Ariel Dorfman ’s explosively provocative, award-winning drama is set in a rocky new democracy. Gerardo has just been chosen to head the commission that will investigate the crimes of the old regime when his car breaks down and he is picked up by a kind doctor. Sandra Oh (the award-winning star of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy) plays Gerardo’s wife, Paulina, who thinks she recognizes the doctor as the man who tormented her as she lay blindfolded in a military detention center years before. A riveting, haunting play about revenge, trauma and forgiveness.
Chay Yew is a playwright and stage director who was born in Singapore. As of 2007 he lives in New York City. As of July 2011, he becomes Artistic Director of Victory Gardens Theater, Chicago.
