监管机构设法稳住货币市场基金以防资产流失
THE day after Lehman Brothers went bust on September 15th 2008, America’s oldest money-market mutual fund declared that investors could no longer redeem shares at the customary $1 each. In “breaking the buck”, Reserve Primary Fund became the most prominent part of a broader panic that saw investors pull billions from other money-market funds, a major source of short-term lending to banks and companies. The Treasury was forced to offer a blanket guarantee.
2008年9月15日雷曼兄弟宣布破产。第二天，美国设立时间最长的货币市场共同基金宣布，投资者不能再像以往惯例一样按照1美元每份的价格赎回基金了。“跌破净值”之后，首要储备基金成为了一场大范围恐慌的突出焦点，投资者们从其他的货币市场基金里赎回了数十亿美元，而这些基金恰恰是银行和企业短期借款的主要来源。至此，美国财政部被迫只能提供全面担保。

标题&第一段：
1、run,一般run作动词，解释为奔跑，运行等。在这里的标题中，跟在against后面，应该是一个名词，我理解为流失，也就是基金资金的流失。
2、go bust破产，其他的破产的常用译法，go bankrupt,go broke
3、no longer 不再，no longer=not……any longer
4、prominent,形容词，突出的；显着的；杰出的，卓越的。 名词是prominence。
5、be forced to do sth. 被迫做……
6、a blanket guarantee 全面担保。blanket都知道吧，解释为毯子嘛，这里引申理解为全面覆盖（就像毯子都盖住了嘛，其实英语里这种引申的比喻很多的）

顺便普及一下证券知识
基金就是一种金融产品，简单的说，基金公司募集资金，然后投资于股票、债券、货币市场等其他有价证券、金融产品，从而获得收益反馈给投资者。
货币市场基金，就是指基金全部投资于货币市场的基金，比如投资于现金、银行存款等（其实记不太清了。。）

Money-market funds are the quintessential “shadow banks”: companies that mediate between savers and borrowers, just as banks do, but without the government guarantees or oversight of banks. In America these funds, unlike most mutual funds, may amortize their investments so as to round their net asset value (NAV) to a stable $1 per share. They also offer cheque-writing privileges. That encourages investors to treat them as deposits. But if a fall in a fund’s assets threatens its stable NAV, investors will rush to redeem shares, as happened to Reserve Primary Fund, which had about 1% of its $62 billion in assets in Lehman debt.
货币市场基金就是典型的“影子银行”，即指在存款者和借款者之间像银行那样做中介的那些企业，但是他们没有政府的担保和银行的监管。美国的货币市场基金和其他多数的共同基金都不同，它们会分期偿付投资者的利得，以此来使他们的净资产维持在每份1美元左右的稳定水平。它们还提供了支票支取的特权。就是为了鼓励投资者把它们这些基金当做存款来对待。但是如果基金资产出现了下降，而威胁到了稳定的资产净值水平，那么投资者们迅速的赎回基金份额，就像发生在首要储备基金上的那样。当时它的620亿美元资产中有1%左右是雷曼兄弟公司发行的债权。

Between 1989 and 2003 there were 144 instances when an American fund needed financial support to maintain its NAV of $1. The founder of Reserve Primary Fund, Bruce Bent senior, and his son, Bruce Bent junior, at first said they intended to support it. On November 12th a jury in New York cleared them of charges of fraud in connection with those statements, but held their management company liable for fraud. Mr Bent junior and the firm were each found liable for one claim of negligence.

第三段：
1、instance,名词，例子。一般都用for instance嘛，就跟for example一个意思。写作的时候可以替换。
2、maintain，动词，保持（还要其他很多的意思）。是一个比较常用的词，需要好好弄清用法意思。
3、senior和junior，在这里其实就是一对父子，一个是老……，一个是小……；在美国人的名字中我很常见。
4、at first,一开始。这里想到就是一堆表示动作先后什么的词了，firstly,first of all,secondly,then,after that,finally,in the end,last but not least等，掌握这些词在写作中会显得比较有逻辑。反过来，阅读中碰到就可以很快的理清逻辑关系了。
5、intend to do,打算去做什么，倾向于做什么，想要做什么，大概就是这个意思。
intend名词就是intention
6、in connection with 与……相联系
可以用动词形式connect with
7、几个单词，fraud，欺诈；jury，陪审团；statement，陈述、声明；claim，有声称的意思，也可以解释为控诉之类的；negligence，玩忽职守
8、liable，负责的意思，大家也都看到了liable for的用法，可以用来替代responsible for

Reserve Primary Fund was only the second fund (and by far the most important) ever to break the buck. Ultimately, shareholders recovered 99 cents on the dollar. That so slight a loss in an investment could trigger such chaos explains the anxiety among regulators about the potential threat such funds, deemed 100% safe, still pose to the financial system.
首要储备基金仅仅是有史以来第二只跌破净值的基金，但是确实至今后果最严重的。最终，股东们以每份0.99美元的价格赎回他们的基金份额。一项投资中这么微小的损失竟引起了如此的混乱也就可以解释监管机构对于这些潜在威胁的担忧。即使是被视作100%安全的基金还是可能会影响金融系统的稳定。

第四段：
1、by far,到目前为止的意思；作文里面挺好用的，很多阅读里也会碰到。
2、ultimately,最后，最终；基本上；可以和finally做一下比较，也可以用作finally的替换词。
3、trigger,名词，指扳机（就是枪啊什么的。。）
作动词时，除了扣动扳机之外，解释为引起（其实这个意思用的多吧- -），引发引起其他的一起表达，比如cause,result in,arouse等，写作中可以作替换。
4、pose to,我觉得这里是省略了a threat,也就是完整的是pose a threat to的意思，就是对对……有威胁，这种意思。
